Why do you think we all hung out in someones basement? Once I got my eight track I became a roaming fool putting a few hundred miles on the car every weekend.
Indoor plumbing reduced the size of the American family. Competing with the Jones's caused both parents to work and screwed up childrearing as it had been carried out for centuries. The eight track tape player put those screwed up kids on the loose, roaming the town, and seeking out your daughters.

Groan! ;)

I have looked at those... I like them. They appear to be well made and very nifty. I also have iTunes and am enjoying the software and being able to legally pick and choose the good songs so I don't have to buy a complete album with only one or two songs worth buying.
All that being said, how would one of these interface with a car stereo that does not have a cassette player?

My biggest complaint with CDs is that they don't have the "warmth" that you get with vinyl.
I'm torn, though, on the SACDs. I think it's a pretty good medium, from what I've heard--admittedly limited. But they are expensive and there isn't that many titles currently available. So do I want to make the investment in something that may not be around in a few years? Oh well....

And let us not forget 4 track (late-sixties, before 8 track).

Now, I've only heard SACDs a couple times, and if Sony ever decides to lower the price of those things a little bit, they really might be able to give vinyl a run for its money.
That is a laugh, it cost the RIAA less than one dollar to make and distibute a CD, each CD has the retail cost of anywhere between $14.00 to $23.00 dollars.
Ripoff city.

And let's not forget the perfect use for your album covers.....Those seeds just rolled out of the weed and could be neatly funneled down the crease.

If you didn't like that joke, you'll hate this one:
A guy comes home from work to find his live-in girlfriend packing her bags, getting ready to move out.
"Why are you leaving me?" he inquires.
"I heard that you're a pedophile."
"Hey, that's an awfully big word for a ten year-old."
To: Sabertooth
Besides that, have you ever tried to clean out seeds with a CD case?

Now that I have a set of nice clean 256kbps MP3's of every CD I've ever bought, I'll never have to repurchase an album ever again.
To: Paul C. Jesup
And SACDs are even more expensive than that; I'd say they average $20. But I don't know the cost in production of them.
To: TravisBickle
I guess I'll have to store my cds behind my cassettes which are behind my 8-tracks which are behind my albums.....

LOL! Now that was funny!
To: discostu
My pet peeve is artists who print the lyrics in prose format on CD covers with no breaks between the songs.
To: discostu
actually they're having a resurgence Probably, cause of dj'ing, not home use.

They're being sold in Bed Bath and Beyond. I think it's home use. Most of the ones I've seen wouldn't be any good for DJing, they don't have the kind of free motion spinning and speed control DJs need (I did that for about a month, you'd think any old turn table would do but that's not the case, especially if you want to do really cool on the fly cuts).

All you gotta do is look at how long LPs have held on. Whatever format finally kills CDs will not finish the project for at least 20 years maybe more.
