Well, Freepers it's going to be a looooooooooong day in the senate today, tonight, Thursday, and I'm guessing into Friday.
I figure we'll need a LIVE thread for this.
Looks like Tom Daschle is going to be speaking at 8:45am this morning followed by Frist at 9:11am

"right wing base" Is that what he calls Senator's constitutes?
That's who the guy from Roll Call said prompted the Pubbies to do this.
(I think he meant us ;-)

If the Republicans control the floor for the full 30 hrs (as I have read they have been trying to do) can even one 'rat leave the floor? Seems to me, they step off, they can end their speech, and the chair can call for a vote to end debate...
Where am I wrong on this (as I am sure I am..)

.....I'm sure that some sort of Pyrrhic victory will be ours.....
Great thought. Since the effort is apparently a press event, I would fear that the spin will be Pubbie loss and not even a Pyrric victory will result.
My hope is for Red Zone cavalry hidden in the woods that will charge and rout the Rat flank about hour 26 .

The Dims only need one on the floor to object. I'm not sure of all the details, but it boils down to them needing just one.

.....How many Senators are needed to change the Senate rules?......
Only 5...... Collins, Snow, McCain Chaffee and Nichols. All the other Pubbies are for changing the rules. These 5 are not.

That's how you look when you're "deeply saddened".

Where am I wrong on this (as I am sure I am..)You have it reversed. The call for a vote needs to be scheduled in advance. However a quorum call can be made by anyone and the GOP needs to keep 51 folks there.

Daschle has gone from deeply saddened to very deeply troubled. It will be a good day.

...If republican then it takes 60....
Incorrect. The number is 51. The rule change procedure in queation involves bypassing the regular requirement for cloture because the advise to a Presidential appointment has constitutional authority beyond normal Senate business.
There are 5 Pubs who don't think the procedure should be followed.

He looks thiner than I recall and kind of pasty looking. Could be makeup but his eyes look glassy also. At least in that picture above.
