Need Questions from Freepers ruarding questions for new Republican Candidate.
Posted on 11/11/2003 6:50:49 AM PST by rapture-me
I will be interviewing a new candidate for Sheriff tomorrow. Additionally, in the near future this will become a somewhat frequent event as other candidates for other local offices decide to enter their name into the 2004 Republican Primary.
If you were the County Chairman, what questions would YOU ask a potential candidate for office to determine their TRUE electability and TRUE party affiliation?

According to CNN: "Boxers or briefs?"

I'll start
"Sir, do you believe residents of your county with a clean criminal record should be able to obtain concealed weapons permits?"

And, of course....ponytail boy: "If your were our daddy, and we were your kids, how would you take care of us?"

I would ask his opinions about concealed carry, search and seizure guidelines, his sense of accountability for what those under him do, attitudes towards proper use of taxpayer money, and whether or not he would follow state laws regarding asset forfeiture or be willing to play footsie with the feds to get around state laws.

Sorry about the misspelling in the title. It's SUPPOSED to read "Need Questions from Freepers regarding questions for new Republican Candidate."

CCW, 2nd Amendment, and how the Sheriff would work within current policy to make it more favorable towards citizens.
This is assuming you live somewhere that has somewhat less than liberal CCW laws.

Ask them a question that deals with something at the national level. Something that's a disagreement between democrats & Republicans that's a hot button issue.
Ask them if they were in the same situation how they would handle/answer the questions or deal with the situation if it were to arise in their own back yard.

Well, considering that this is a position of law enforcement, it would be prudent to ask the prospective candidate what his/her belief is on the Constitution as it relates to the Rule of Law; and ask candidate to give a few examples of applying Constitutional guidelines to specific occurences he/she may encounter in their day-to-day operations.

If you are a county chairmen and you have to ask this question on a message board, you are in over your head.

Seriously...I would ask questions that lead to "liberal" responses. What would you do for homelessness?? Or, how would you deal with people who just made a little mistake (like drugs, theft or murder) after losing out in life's lottery?
A coward will tell you what he thinks you want to hear...a true Conservative will debate your flawed premises.
Coward - I will make homelessness a priority if I become sheriff.
Conservative - Homelessness is not my job. My legal authority is to enforce laws.

How about illegals, then? What would his approach be to that problem?

If you are a county chairmen and you have to ask this question on a message board, you are in over your head.No. I have always believed that many heads were better than one. I am a leader, not a Democrat. Thus, I believe that true leadership is the ability to obtain ALL possible answers before setting a course.

If you are a county chairmen and you have to ask this question on a message board, you are in over your head.I disagree. I find, in general, people who are willing to ask questions, are the most intelligent and informed, even before they asked the question.
Idiots avoid asking questions because it tends to expose their incompetence.

Since others have already brought up the CWP, how about home-schooling and spanking as a form of disipline.
Then you can go on to the abuse of power by CPS. Finally what will his policy be regarding the 4th Amendment.
To: rapture-me
Budget issues would be a place to start. Jail funding seems to be an issue everywhere.
I am not aware of your sheriffs' duties as perscribed by law. I think getting these would help you formulate some questions.
