As Rush Limbaugh fans known as dittoheads eagerly await the return of Rush to the airwaves, word is that he is recovering nicely and should be back soon. On Friday, Rushs brother David said that Rush is succeeding in shaking off his addiction to prescription painkillers and is eager to return to his post as the nation's No. 1 talk host.
"Rush is going to be back soon, he's going to hit the ground running and he's going to have a renewed passion," David Limbaugh told EIB (Excellence in Broadcasting) substitute host Walter Williams.
"I'm excited about it, he's excited about it, and the days are short, he's coming back," he added.
The younger Limbaugh reported that Rush is "really making significant strides and is continuing to learn a great deal and truly believes he is profiting immeasurably" from his treatment experience.
"While his mind is still focused on the treatment, he's also given a lot of thought to his return, and he's very excited."
Limbaugh described his talk-star sibling as "anxious to renew his dialogue with the EIB family," saying that Rush wants to "tell the audience ... firsthand about how he feels about all this."
According to Media Post's "Media Daily News," Limbaugh is set to return to the airwaves on Nov. 17, four days before he's scheduled to make his first public appearance since entering rehab.
But New York Post radio columnist John Mainelli tells NewsMax that the Nov. 17 date is unconfirmed.
On Nov. 5, Inside Radio, an industry newsletter, quoted Mark Mays, president of Clear Channel, the media giant that owns Rushs show, as saying, "Rush will be out of his rehab in the next 7-10 days. We're expecting him to have a full recovery."
The company also noted solid support for Rush. Clear Channel radio chief John Hogan also was quoted by Inside Radio,: "We have maintained 100 percent of our affiliate base and we have maintained our advertiser base as well."
The item also said "a new survey by the independent polling firm of Burke Inc. finds support for Rush among his listeners is holding. Ninety percent said his drug problem has not diminished their feelings about him."

The company also noted solid support for Rush. Clear Channel radio chief John Hogan also was quoted by Inside Radio,: "We have maintained 100 percent of our affiliate base and we have maintained our advertiser base as well." I am glad to hear this, but I certainly hope that ClearChannel's support for Rush isn't solely based on pragmatism. After all, if Rush had murdered somebody, but had kept 100% of his affiliate base and advertiser base, would they be solidly behind him?
The issue isn't whether Rush has maintained his base, but whether ClearChannel has evaluated how and why Rush became an addict and decided he deserves their support.
For the record, I support Rush, but based on the moral issues outlined above, not based on his ability to serve me or his market.
Shalom.

David did not mention a return date, while he had several chances to do so.

Many docs say that Rush's prolonged use of precription drugs requires longer than 30 days. It's not like quitting smoking.

David did not mention a return date, while he had several chances to do so. They are probably waiting for the final OK from the Bilderberg Group :-)

I believe he's already been in for 30 days, as of yesterday, and I read last week he'd be in until somewhere between the middle of this week to next weekend.
I've read he's due back on the radio next week, hope he will take whatever time he needs to deal with this. I assume he is highly aware of the stakes this time around and hopefully being well-advised by his doctors... Sending Rush good wishes and hoping for the best! :)

Good. Come on back, Rush. Rejoice. The worthless "Liberals" gave it their best shot--and it flopped. You can't keep a good man down!

Memo to self... make sure Walkman has new batteries and works.

You don't kick a serious drug habit in 30 days. Rush will be fighting this addiction demon for a long time. It's basically with you for life. I'm betting Rush can keep things in check. Looking forward to Rush`s return.

Art Bell came back full time a few times, and then abruptly quit. Now he is back 2 days a week and is better than ever. Maybe Rush should start out 2 days a week and work his way up. A relapse could destroy him.

I'm betting Rush can keep things in check. My recollection is that he was one of theose people who quit smoking in one day. That shows strong will-power and character. He'll get a handle on it, the smae way he got a handle on his weight. Rush is da' man!

Rush seems to understand that there isn't really a quick fix. He said on the radio at the time of this announcement something along the lines of "This will never be over."
Anxious for his return, I've sure missed him.

Has anyone heard what Marta has had to say about Rush's situation? Has there been a thread on her reaction? If so please give a link to it. Thanks.

Good, now that what they might have been blackmailing him over has come out, he can show some backbone again. But I doubt it.

And his days of consuming ADULT BEVERAGES (liquid drugs) are also over cause recovering addicts can't have any mind altering drugs period

That's a very good idea... maybe he should try just 2 days a week to start with...
Also... maybe he should hire someone to be a sort of 'keeper' or babysitter... someone like a good PI that would keep a close eye on him for a while... for his own good... this sort of thing is hard to get past.
(wish I had a keeper that could keep me away from fattening foods :-)

I recall Rush quit drinking a while ago. They 'weight loss' period. He was still smoking cigars though. Wonder if he will quit those too.

You make a daily choice not to use.
Sometimes, you make an HOURLY choice not to use.
