Clark 'Jokes' Southerners Are 'Stupid'
NewsMax ^ | 11/9/03 | Limbacher

Yet another Democratic presidential candidate has put his foot in his mouth while trying to appeal to Southern voters, and this time it's a Southerner himself, Gen. Wesley Clark.

"All Americans, even if they're from the South and 'stupid,' should be represented," Clark told the New York Daily News on Thursday, in a quote first reported in Sunday editions.

Clark was commenting on ex-Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's attempt to reach out to Confederate flag carrying Southerners - and he prefaced his "stupid Southerners" comment with the qualifier: "This is a joke."

Who knew Gen. Clark was such a comedian.

What's next? Will the Arkansas Rhodes scholar follow his quip about stupid Southerners with more "humorous" stereotyping about Irish drunkards, cheap Jews and lazy blacks?

That would surely spice up the campaign trail.

Yes, Arkansas was part of the Confederacy....but did you catch in one of the articles that Clark's wife is from Brooklyn! Hmm...that could explain a lot!

WHOOOPS!!!!!!!!!! Well, the Wesley Clark campaign is now over. The South was the part of the country where Clark had its greatest appeal among 'Rat voters. If Clark were somehow to wind up on the national ticket, this gaffe would make for a great Bush TV commercial.

No, he's only saying stupid people are from the South.
Doesn't matter how you try and spin it....he didn't say "Even stupid AMERICANS should be represented."

I thought that the 1988 slate of Democratic presidential candidates was the most pathetic assortment ever. I am very quickly revising my opinion. Mike Dukakis must be loving every minute of this.

HAHAHA! Ah ain't had this much fun since the pigs ate muh sister! HAHAHA!

General Clark, you are indeed the PERFECT person to represent stupid people from anywhere. You have shown yourself to be an ignoramus--the demonrats deserve you.

So if he had said "I think all Americans - and this is a joke! - all Americans, even if they're black and 'stupid,' should be represented" it would be o.k., because he was just joking?

One thing that gets me is the following: How many million Southerners are Black? 10 or 20 I'm guessing. So either he's saying southern blacks are stupid, or he's just talking about white people. Blacks should be just as offended at this nonsense as whites are.

And to the person that's attacking Newsmax... nobody's arguing it wasn't a joke. It was simply a stupid, unfunny, offensive, and racist joke. Ergo, Clark is a racist bastard and I call on him to withdraw.

DEAN.....

Dean, after declaring unity with rebel flag wavers, described himself as a "metrosexual."

CLARK.....

"All Americans, even if they're from the South and 'stupid,' should be represented," Clark told the New York Daily News on Thursday, in a quote first reported in Sunday editions.

Two down...
