Frist Hopes to Change Filibuster Rules by Keith Peters, Washington, D.C., correspondent Senate majority leader wants to lower the number of votes needed to stop Democratic blockade of President Bush's judicial nominees. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has had enough of his Democratic colleagues filibustering conservative judicial nominees so he has plans to make breaking those filibusters easier. Frist wants to do it by changing Senate rules governing the number of votes needed to override a filibuster. His attempt to do it through a Senate resolution is co-sponsored by Sen. Zell Miller, D-Ga. "It would end the filibuster as applied to the president's nominations," explained Manuel Miranda, a Frist aide. "On the first vote there would be the 60 votes that we have now, and then it would escalate downward so that at the end . . . a simple majority would be able to do what the Constitution calls upon senators to do have an honest, fair up-or-down vote." Attorney Deanna Mool of the Republican National Lawyers Association said Democrats have applied a litmus test to judicial nominees by blocking Miguel Estrada, Priscilla Owen and Bill Pryor. "If the Democrats don't like the view of the appointee on certain issues, they just say, 'You know what? We're not going to allow a vote on this guy or woman and we don't have to seat them.' It's just wrong." Miranda said he thinks most people understand how wrong it is, which is why he predicts success for the Republicans. "I think the American people are becoming very aware and sensitized to the issue of the judiciary, the importance of the judiciary and how bad it can be when the judiciary goes awry," he said. |

Someone posted a 'type' of paint pen which should be used to make posters which is better than Majic Markers. Would you happen to have that information? A Bingo Marker works great! They have foam tips with some type of membrane backing for the ink/paint to ooze/squeeze out of, but I have found that if you poke a push pin through the membrane a couple of times you will get a better flow of ink for letter-writing.
The ink is thinner than poster paint and usually a lighter color so you may have to go over the words several passes; and it takes several minutes to dry (dry them flat).
They work great, make even thickness letters, and you can find them at Dollar Stores everywhere!
Go Get 'em, IG!

Birdsman, you can write these two socialist senators regardless of party affiliation. Call their offices and let them know you are out there and mighty tired of their openly stated obstructions. Then call at least two Republican senators giving them your thumbs up on the filibuster. None of us should sit on the sidelines just because our state has democrats in the senate. Get active and get mad!!!

I understand that this week the GOP is FINALLY going to force the Democrats to do a real filibuster.
The above is from your letter......
Question..... Where are you getting info that the GOP is going to force the Democrats to do a real filibuster? I've not seen that anywhere but may have missed it..
This event this week is a scheduled 30 hr. 'talkathon' by the Republicans to bring attention to the stalling/filibuster of the Democrats. It is my assumption they will be placing into the record a lot of info on each candidate, basis for up/down votes, their understanding of advise/consent, democrat obstructions as they see it, etc. but this isn't a filibuster as I understand it. A filibuster is used by the minority not the majority I think. Thanks ...

You can help just by calling their offices and tell them you are for the filibuster, that they had better step in line with the majority of America. This is not just a state by state action, this is about America and Americans. You help is needed. Your two senators want your vote...they don't know your party affiliation when you call. Get busy!!
