John Loftus now on Batchelor Alexander WABC reports: A student of Nuclear Engineering at McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario. has disappeared along with 180 pounds of nuclear waste stolen from the university's nuclear reactor. This happened several months ago but an alert has been ordered tonight in the USA and Canada. His name is ? Adnan al-ShoukriJumai, 27 years old, a Saudi national. A search is underway. The fear is that they may hijack a cargo plane in Canada. I hope to provide further details later on this thread.

Think you're on the right path...
If this was for real there would be a major hissy fit nation wide.
Since the source is iffy from the get-go I'm not planning on losing any sleep.

Bin Laden is a moot point...
his bones are rotting in the bottom of some dank collapsed cave in Tora Bora.
But rather than "end" Islam, I think it would trigger the mother of all Jihads.
Then we would suff them, then we win.

Just because a Canadian University denies something is no reason to disbelieve the story. If this were true, they'd want to keep it from the public. Little the public can do, and a lot of panic.
Dirty bombs. That is what is going through my head.
I think that they're coming. I can feel it. I'm supposed to go to a hockey game tommorow. The hell with it, the bastards can try it if they like.
If this material does get used against the United States: please, invade Canada and get rid of our leaders.

bin laden is just another symptom of the entire islamic culture. I coulda said arafat, or who knows what mullah/iman/sheik/islamic.
The fact is, they worship a spot in the ground as though it was their god. So, we destroy that spot, they are screwed.
They have measured their attacks to be JUST enough to keep us from responding that way. John's statement that they *want* us to do this, is beyond ignorant. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I might also add that, if al-Qaeda is smart (and they are) they've probably already killed the guy who stole this stuff.

I would love to tell you a story of the Northern Borders, so I will. My husband and I are Great Lake Boaters, our home port is in Port Clinton, Ohio. Several times a season we take a trip to Windsor Casino in Windsor Ontario about 60 miles. We leave our dock and go NW thru Lake Erie, about 30 miles into our trip we enter into Candadian Waters. We continue into the Detroit River and go the the Lake St. Clair/Detroit River where we go to a marina for the weekend. Once there, we are required to call Canadian Customs where we give them our names, names of passengers, boat name/numbers and the amount of time we will be in Windsor. We then take a cab (ALWAYS) driven by a rude middle-eastern to the casino. We could stay days as long as we pay our dock fees. We could have drugs, weapons, and 10 more people than we came with and be in US water in one hour. We have never been check boarded nor have any of our fellow boaters who also make the trip. It is a joke and a ticking time bomb.

A couple of observations on your post:
"1) Nuclear waste can't cause a nuclear explosion."
No way. You mean that really? Gee whillikers, they never taught us all that in the military. Shucks, all this time I though my denist's X-ray machine could wipe out my town.
"2) Armchair war criminals have posted their cool little pics of nuclear explosions and suggesting Mecca and Medina be nuked, oh, geez, I don't know, several thousand times on FR. It sorta stopped being original or interesting or cool somewhere around the first time it was done."
If you don't like it, go to DU. They love liberal and sand monkey suck ups.
"3) Of course, I suspect this is beyond your limited reasoning ability, but I would expect that Bin Laden would be quite thrilled with the US attacking Mecca or Medina in any way, shape, or form."
Of course, having a sense of humor is beyond your limited reasoning ability and since I don't have time, nor the crayons to explain it to you, please, go to DU and play with your socialist buddies. Personally speaking if we wiped Islam off of the face of the earth tommorrow, I wouldn't care. But then again, your opinion is like toilet paper. At some point it serves a useful purpose, it usually smells or looks like crap at some point, and can be disposed of rapidly.

Your "bogus" rebuttal is dated Oct 23rd. If the post is accurate (today) I am relativly certain that WABC would have checked it out.
I am skeptical, but, its not like college would have anything to hide if it were true......Hmmmmm??.....

How exactly does one go about stealing 180 pounds of spent nuclear material. I mean, is this stuff just sitting around in a storage shed? Or, more importantly, is it readily available to university students for whatever purpose is deemed scientific? Additionally, it has been reported that the intended target would be to crash a cargo plane into a nuclear power plant. If this is the case, what would be the purpose of an additional 180 pounds of nuclear material?

Is anyone dumb enough to actually believe that this would intimidate the terrorists???

Wrong. The Canadians are parsing their denials a la Clinton as to which nuclear material are missing. They say no material is missing from the reactor but they are not commenting on missing irradiated medical waste. See link below:

Thanks for the links.
I knew there was a reasonable explanation for this.

You may or may not know the answer to my question: what are those smoke lines at the left of the picture? I always wondered what they were since I first saw those blasts as a kid. They're intended to form a grid so that the size of the blast can be estimated.

We were just discussing the cargo plane threat breaking news tonight on MSNBC on this thread.........(did not mention the nuclear material story). The plot thickens if true.
