John Loftus now on Batchelor Alexander WABC reports: A student of Nuclear Engineering at McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario. has disappeared along with 180 pounds of nuclear waste stolen from the university's nuclear reactor. This happened several months ago but an alert has been ordered tonight in the USA and Canada. His name is ? Adnan al-ShoukriJumai, 27 years old, a Saudi national. A search is underway. The fear is that they may hijack a cargo plane in Canada. I hope to provide further details later on this thread.

Dirty bomb effects:
A dirty bomb is made of radioactive material attached to conventional explosives.
If the weapon explodes, there is a risk of both direct casualties and illness caused by exposure to radioactive material.
It's hard to imagine any kind of dirty bomb producing the kinds of mass casualties that we saw on September 11
Mark Gwozdecky, International Atomic Energy Agency
A dirty bomb differs from a nuclear bomb in that it does not generate a massive explosion caused by nuclear fission.
Potential sources of material used to make a dirty bomb include radioactive waste from industry and medicine:
Spent rods from nuclear power stations
Radioactive material from hospitals that carry out radiotherapy
Devices used in industry for food irradiation or to check welds in pipelines.
According to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an average of 200 radiation sources used in medicine or industry are stolen, lost or abandoned in America each year.
What are the potential health hazards?
Anyone exposed to extremely high levels of radioactivity is likely to suffer radiation sickness.
The radiation destroys cells it comes into contact with. It is most dangerous when it enters the body by being swallowed, breathed in or entering through an open wound.
At lower levels, radiation is linked with cancer.
These are not weapons of mass destruction, they are potentially a weapon of mass disruption.
"There's limited lethality," he added. "You would have to swallow and breathe in the material before you could become a casualty."

Faculty and staff have been conducting extensive inventory checks to ensure no nuclear or radioactive materials are missing from the facilities. So far, the checks have shown no equipment is unaccounted for. I note that this does not state that no materials are unaccounted for.

Just because a Canadian University denies something is no reason to disbelieve the story. If this were true, they'd want to keep it from the public. Little the public can do, and a lot of panic. The University has every reason in the world to shout this from the mountaintops and get everybody on this guys case so that their nuclear waste doesn't wind up contaminating Manhattan for the next thousand years.
We all watched the World Trade Center collapse and the Pentagon burn. We all wondered what was next. But we didn't panic. That's no longer a legitimate reason for anything.

I think the black (Borg looking) box has a "meteorite" (shiny rock some bedouin found) in it. Just goes to show that Islam is not a cult, right. They worship a rock. Doesn't remove them far from the druids does it.
My apologies to any druid this might offend.

Oh shi* comes to mind at this news. Why did they wait several months to release this? That is dangerous.

Note to self, dont breath, eat, drink, or wittle during a dirty bomb.

Old news .. and this monster is still on the loose! He was a resident of my wonderful home away from home for terror cells, Florida, and about 9-10 months ahgo, there was a raid on a restaurant in Tampa where he was supposedly spotted. Cops sealed off the scene, but came up empty.
I believe his father, who praises him, calls him a teacher and he would NEVER do anything wrong, lives in Ft. Lauderdale.

Radiological Weapons: FBI Hunts for Suspected Terrorist Believed Connected to Dirty Bomb Plot
The FBI has begun an intensive search to find Adnan al-Shukrijumah, believed to be connected to captured suspected terrorist Jose Padillas alleged plan to build and detonate a dirty bomb, U.S. officials said yesterday (see GSN, March 20).
The FBI has urged law enforcement agencies around the world to look out for al-Shukrijumah, who is believed to have lived in Florida. The bureau has said the Saudi-born al-Shukrijumah carries passports from several countries, including Guyana, Saudi Arabia, Canada and Trinidad. He is also believed to have used several aliases, the FBI alert said.
Top FBI counterterrorism officials have compared al-Shukrijumah to Mohamed Atta, the leader of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, authorities said. While the connection between al-Shukrijumah and Padilla is still unclear, three officials with knowledge of the case have said Shukrijumah was Padillas partner in the dirty bomb plot, according to the Chicago Tribune (see GSN, Sept. 3). Some of the information leading authorities to believe that two men are connected has come from interrogations of recently captured senior al-Qaeda operative Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, officials said.
He is a really, really bad guy. We are very concerned about him and finding him, an official said (Cam Simpson, Chicago Tribune, March 21).
Nuclear Power Plants Increase Security
Meanwhile, a number of states have deployed National Guard troops at nuclear power plants, according to a nuclear industry survey. Additional security measures have been implemented at nuclear power plants since the U.S. terrorism threat level was increased to orange Monday, according to the Associated Press (Associated Press/Baltimore Sun, March 21).

Your "bogus" rebuttal is dated Oct 23rd. If the post is accurate (today) I am relativly certain that WABC would have checked it out. This isn't coming out of ABC's news organization, it's coming from a radio show on WABC. I've never listened to this show but I've seen it cited a few times here on FR and none of it has panned out. If a dirty bomb were set off with nuclear waste from this university it would be easy to trace.

The main threat of a "dirty bomb," however, would be fear itself. A "dirty bomb" detonation in New York City at midday could cause a mass exodus from the city in panic.
Additionally, families and businesses might be reluctant to live, work, and go to school in an area that has been potentially contaminated. This could create conditions that could eventually lead to the demolition of tens of square miles of real estate and local economic hardship. Further, the cost of cleanup and decontamination would likely be billions of dollars.

"
Do you really think supermarkets and private homes in New York City only stock a 36-hour supply of food?"
Correct. Just about every supermarket has a 48 to 72 hour stock on hand. Inventory/just in time delivery ya know...

PRESS RELEASE
September 5, 2003
ADNAN EL SHUKRIJUMAH IS NOT A SAUDI CITIZEN
[Washington, DC] -- The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia again feels the need to correct the issue regarding the nationality of Mr. Adnan G. El Shukrijumah, wanted in connection with possible threats against the United States. On March 31, 2003, the Ministry of Interior announced that Shukrijumah is not, and never has been, a Saudi citizen, as had been widely reported then and is again being reported now.
His father, Gulshai El Shukrijumah, worked in Saudi Arabia for 27 years as an expatriate employee until 1986 when the family moved to the United States. The father did not have Saudi citizenship. His son, Adnan El Shukrijumah, is also not a Saudi citizen and if he is traveling using a Saudi passport, then he has obtained it and is using it illegally.
It is unfortunate that the media continues to identify him as a Saudi citizen, ignoring the facts.
Saudi Arabia is vigilant in combating terrorism; it pursues terrorists vigorously and punishes them mercilessly.
