"Following the prayer, Falwell told President Bush the people in the room represent about 200,000 pastors and 80 million Christians nationwide who consider him not only to be our president but also a man of God."
"80 Million Christians"? Small number? Guess us Catholics are not "Christians" to Falwell.
And Bush on abortion:

Bush has a strong pro-life record. Even Ronald Reagan refrained from speaking to the troops at the annual march on Washington, but W quickly agreed to do so. He is willing to go publicly on record as pro-life, which is regretably rare among national politicians.

Bush asked the group to join hands and pray "that God will bless our efforts to preserve life in our land." And we ask that God blesses you, Mr. President.

In response, Bush "humbly turned to me and replied, 'I'll try to live up to it.'" And millions of us are praying that the Holy Spirit dwelling with in you will help you to continue to do just that.
Praise GOD for this Pro-Life President!

I read your link, Burkeman. Are you interpreting that differently than I am?
Praise God for this pro-Life President.......who, apparently unlike Falwell(?), knows that Catholics are Christians too......because his very pro-Life brother is one.

I think there are more than "80 million Christians" in this country. But if I misread him than I am sorry.

And as for that link- the very least that could happen was a partial birth abortion ban. The vast majority of this country agrees on that. The Dems will lose this one. Bush knows this. And if the courts say this law is unconstitutional? What does Bush do then?
Not a federal issue, the law Bush signed is against the Constitution, and I would strike it down. Bush of course knows that and knows that it will be struke down- with Thomas and Scalia most likely concurring.

The authors of the bill are quite sure that it will stand the SC test because they have made it specific, whereas the other one was vague.
He says that he will fight against all judicial attempts to knock it down, and he will.

Doubtful. I can't see either Thomas or Scalia suffering this law which is in clear violation of the Constitution as they did not suffer other laws that happen to be liberal in result. Thomas and Scalia are not liars. If they were to judge in favor of this law despite all their past rulings against Federal Power- it would negate everything they stand for. This will be struck down and properly so. But they will do it in a concurring opinion and not be with the majority. And it will be highly scathing.

You think Thomas and Scalia will strike down the first step to put a stop the murder of millions of babies in this country??
....because it is unconstitutional to protect the innocent in this country? Isn't that what the Constitution says the government is for.......to protect the citizens??
Pardon me, sir, but I'm a bit confused here......

Hi ohioWfan, I couldn't help but remember how his promise to sign this bill got the most applause of anything he said during his nomination acceptance speech. God bless President Bush.
