BUBBLE PEOPLE!

That's what our family has taken to calling liberals.

We live in Oregon, near Portland, but outside it.

Everyday my wife and I go into town. We are surrounded by liberals. They talk about what they heard on NPR. They have the famous Saddam poster on their walls, except with a likeness of GWB being pulled from the Capitol dome.

They dish it out to conservatives like me. But I dish it right back by telling them they are the ones in the dark.

They only have each other to talk to. They dismiss anything they hear from a conservative. They act as though they represent a significant majority. Problem is, for them atleast, they are far from even a majority. I remind them of this, but they aren't phased the least.

Best of all, they think Howard Dean is keen. And if he won't do there is always Hillary.

These are the same people that slept for 8 long years. Yet they now have some new-found for imagined corruption. They fail to recognize war for what it is.

They are BUBBLE PEOPLE. And every work day I get to be around them.

You should have some fun next November 3rd, when they wake up to read about the Bush re-election upset landslide, the improbably significant increase in the Republican House majority, and the new, utterly unforseeable 60-40 Republican Senate majority.

I sympathize. I work for a newspaper. Need I say more? (Besides that I have nothing to do with the news division, so DON'T BLAME ME)

I used to work with the bubble people at the local rag here in eugene .
im not sure which area is worse for bubble people, portland or eugene.
but they are trapped in their little enclaves because outside of these two cities oregon is quite a conservative state.
well ashland is infested with bubble people.
as each day goes by the bubble people are becoming more and more irelevent and this is a GOOD thing!

CT, I agree... But it goes further: on policy issues, their philosophy is trapped and therefore dead. There was a great Richard Rahn piece a day or two ago (I'll search the FREEP to see if it was posted) that talks about the new effort of Liberals (John Podesta) to forge a liberal think-tank and compares it with the conservatives. Whereas the conservatives come in all varieties (from libertarian Cato to conservative Heritage, Hudson, etc. to more middle of the road American Enterprise Institute, etc. etc.) and their ideas can span the whole range of considered solutions (flat tax, fair tax, reduced tax, National Sales Tax), Democrat/liberals are trapped: all taxes should always be raised; more spending should always be done; you should always look to government to solve the people's problems; you can never CONSIDER a policy that has any damaging impact on a Demo special interest (teachers union, public employees union, other unions, gays, lawyers, abortionists, tree-huggers, Ivy League professors).

Good luck, Center for American Progress! Brain-dead from the start!
