Miniskirted policeman snares flasher

A 21-year-old policeman dressed as a high school girl in uniform including a miniskirt has trapped a flasher in Japan, police said yesterday.

The unidentified policeman in Ube City, 800km south-west of Tokyo, had been operating in not exactly plain clothes since late October after more than 20 girls were molested or encountered a flasher this year.

"As our enhanced patrolling failed to catch the culprit, we decided to arrest him red-handed by disguising a policeman as a woman," a Ube police spokesman said.

The young policeman chosen for the task "looked good in the borrowed school uniform without a wig or make-up," the spokesman said.

He was wearing a floral-pattern cravat bow, navy-blue jacket and miniskirt with a hemline 10cm above the knee when a middle-aged man exposed his genitals to him in a residential area late on Tuesday.

The disguised policeman's legs were unshaven but the flasher, identified as Isamu Nakashima, 50, did not notice it in the dark.

"I was stunned as I believed he was a girl," Nakashima was quoted as saying after being arrested on obscenity charges.

The policeman is 165cm tall and weighs 60kg.

It was not the first time a disguised man has snared a wrong-doer.

In August 2001, a 49-year-old father trapped a man suspected of preying on girls by dressing up in his daughter's wind breaker and shorts in the western Japan village of Yamazoe.

The father was infuriated after learning a man threatened his 17-year-old daughter with a knife

If the cop ever wants a career change he might be able to make a go of being a female impersonator.

Maybe the Joker can get into this after he loses his bid to unseat President Bush.

I hear they're looking for a few good metrosexuals...

From what I've seen, hairy legs is NOT the most efficient way to establish gender in Japan.
