As much as I understand the sentiment, this is inappropriate only because President George Herbert Walker Bush personally selected Kennedy, yes, before Kennedy made some of his most boorish statements about W, but GHW Bush decided to go ahead with the award. I wouldn't have, but he did.
Texas A&M is my alma mater and I love it dearly. But I don't think this protest is appropriate given GHWB's decision. Feel free to disagree -- as I said, I totally understand the sentiment of the protest.

I just watched a clip of GHW Bush repeating all of Kennedy's speech. Can we say embarassing to Kennedy? He actually got up and walked off and then came back when GHW said, "Get back here."
It was really funny.
