Police: Vallejo Girl May Have Been Kidnapped
POSTED: 5:15 PM PST November 5, 2003
Vallejo police say they are looking for a 13 or 14-year-old girl who may have been kidnapped around 1:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the girl was walking along the 300 block of McGrue Avenue when a late-model black pickup with a covered bed and tinted windows pulled up alongside her. The driver was wearing a ski mask, police say, and the girl was forced into the truck as it drove away.
The girl is described as white, wearing a light blue shirt and black pants with dark blue shoes, and carrying a red backpack.

Saw and heard a TV Amber Alert during the end of a SJ Sharks/NJ Devils hockey game about 45 minutes ago.
The TV set went black, then came a thin red ticker with info. An announcer came on and described the situation...Then back to the hockey game.
Spooked both me and my fifteen-year-old son.At least I know what the TV alert is all about now.

Are you in the bay area, or was the alert issued state wide?

Father, protect this child. Give her the heart to escape, and the strength to overcome her oppressor. Guide her through the darkness, and lead her to help... I ask it in Jesus name, Father, we call out to you!

It was the Zodiac! Well, probably not but "Vallejo" always makes me think of him. Well, he did get his start in Vallejo, but he never abducted anyone.

According to the official AMBER website, there is not yet a current alert issued for this girl. I don't get it. It sure sounds like a good deal. Since there is no RP or confirmed Complainant, let us indeed pray it is a false alarm.

AMBER Alerts pose an intriguing dilemma for Las Medias. In searching for someone who is missing, it's of great benefit to have a PICTURE of the missing person. Further, it helps to have a NAME and an accurate description.
The conundrum occurs if it eventually turns out that the abductee is raped. Because news organizations usually bleat about their policies of not ID-ing a rape vic, especially if the vic is a minor, they are then faced with having to withdraw the picture and name of that vic and ask everyone to forget that they know who she is and what she looks like.
This happened in the case of the two teens who were abducted and sexually assaulted before the gendarmes gunned the perp down.
So has that specter now caused news orgs NOT to ID a possible AMBER alert vic? And if so, isn't that rather counter-productive in helping the public find the gal as quickly as possible?
