RAMADI, Iraq -- In the marble-floored home of a tribal chieftain here in guerrilla-infested western Iraq, Lt. Col. Hector Mirabile dug into a big platter of rice, chicken and lamb. He shared the communal meal with a man whom the colonel's troops had arrested just a few weeks earlier for trying to get American soldiers killed.

Actually since the Col. worked in Miami city goverment he should be supremely well suited for this kind of work.

Believe me, I grew up in Miami, it is the worst combination of the third world banana republics and rednecks.

It's just an inside joke among Cubans. I was born in Havana but my parents fled the "workers paradise" when I was very young.

Like most clear thinking immigrants, from countries where what the Democrats want has been taken to its logical conclusion, I am a fairly staunch conservative. This conservatism usually gets me labled a racist, homophobe, elitist, cold hearted, etc.

So, many of us have taken the sterotype of conservatives from the south (redneck) and combined it with the Cuban thing and presto.....Cuban Redneck.

After soldiers had surrounded the man's house and blasted open the door, they found five rocket-propelled grenade launchers buried in the backyard and a box of documents showing his deep involvement with Saddam Hussein's Baath party. Intelligence intercepts indicated that Mr. Rashid had been giving money to the guerrillas who are behind roadside bombs and ambushes that target Americans here almost every day. (Mr. Rashid claims to be innocent.)

In a part of Ramadi controlled by a different tribe, Col. Mirabile's soldiers that night encountered three roadside bombs. The two that went off caused no injuries.

Wonder if they're taking our money and paying their neighbors to plant the roadside IEDs? My "deal" with the Sheik would be NO attacks or your brother is back in the clink for life. :-(
