Canceling showtime right now!! SCREW THEM!
To: mhking
I will say that it's a partial victory in the sense that by not airing on a major network, it doesn't get confused with the historical record. That was the danger. People would have seen the movie and said: "Guess what I heard about Ronald Reagan? I heard that he called himself the antichrist."
With Showtime's audience, this stinker will be long forgotten.

I emailed Showtime. I doubt I will receive a response. I happen to be a subscriber due a single program. But, I will cancel it if they air this travesty.
To: jonalvy44
there will still be european distribution.
This is still a CBS production.
The french will eat this antiamerican manure.
To: AmishDude
Cable TV programming is broadcast over the regular airwaves in europe. Sex and the City is broadcast UNCENSORED over the regular airwaves. A few seasons back but still not cable.
This WILL be shown to those who want their hatred of the USA reinforced.

REAGAN WILL AIR ON SHOWTIME UNCUT
This is the most egregious distortion of them all! Everyone knows Reagan was circumcised. Have they no shame?

CBS, Showtime, big deal. Either way, the film has been made, and obviously rather than correct the number of horrible errors (or better yet burn the film and just call it junk), they're still going to produce it as is.
Which just means that our children will get to enjoy this piece of crud for the next few generations as teachers trot it out into the classroom in the name of 'education'.
The real effort should be to find someone to do a competing film with production quality of sufficent standards to make it a critical sucess, hopefully suplanting the original in our schools.
Anyone care to take bets about the number of news stories of teachers who will tape this off of Showtime and then show it in the classroom?

I live in a small South Texas town and watch satellite TV, and as such am unable at this time to watch any local channels ("local" meaning the nearest big city).
So I guess I've been boycotting all three of the Big Guys plus PBS ever since I've moved here. I wish I could do more, but I guess that's going to have to do for now.

you could send an email to Hallmark Entertainment. They will be distributing "the reagans" to europe.

Anyone got an email address for Showtime handy?

showtime has the shield of being a pay only service. You should also write to hallmark entertainment because they have not changed as a distributor of this. (halmark cards are a no-no this holiday season.)
To: mgist
Fine, I won't be watching it cause I don't have Showtime. But then, I wasn't gonna watch it on SeeBS either!

LOL! Of all those companies, the only ones I ever do business with are Blockbuster, to rent video games, and Paramount, it if happens to be the studio that is producing a movie I want to see. I don't watch any of those other channels on TV.

this is not a true "win" for us; the crap will still air, just on a "sister" networkBut it's audience will be much smaller than that on SeeBS. The pool of subscribers to Showtime is smaller than the number of folks who just get SeeBS on their antennas or basic cable.

I'm *so* glad that .45MAN and I do not have any of the "movie" channels due to our 3-year boycott of Hollywierd.
More people need to cancel these channels - you are only supporting the
cr@p that comes out of the clueless left coast.

I partially agree that this is not a true win. While they are still airing it, their audience has been drastically cut. How many people do you know that have Showtime. I wasn't aware that CBS had any part in Showtime; now for sure I will never subscribe to it.

After my initial comment urging caution, I would be late with the high fives. Thanks to everyone who participated in getting the CBS lyopic pulled. Good job!

Showtime has acquired telecast rights to THE REAGANS, the Sony Pictures Television project starring James Brolin and Judy Davis that was scheduled to begin airing on CBS on November 16th. The premium network will work with director Robert Allan Ackerman (SHOWTIME's TENNESSEE WILLIAMS' THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE) and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron ("Chicago") to televise this controversial dramatization sometime in 2004.
Showtime has always been a haven for provocative projects that spark strong audience reactions including DC 9/11: TIME OF CRISIS, a portrayal of President George W. Bush and his leadership following our national tragedy and STRANGE JUSTICE, a dramatization of the Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill story. From BASTARD OUT OF CAROLINA, a powerful film about child abuse to DIRTY PICTURES, an exploration of First Amendment issues, the premium network prides itself on offering its subscribers the kind of programming broadcast networks will not always embrace.
In spite of the fact that no one has seen the finished film, Showtime acknowledges that there is controversy surrounding THE REAGANS. As a result, the network is planning to provide an on-air forum in conjunction with the airing of the film that will provide a dialogue for those who agree and disagree with its content.
Showtime will collaborate with the filmmaker to create a final film that will be the kind of quality programming its subscribers have come to expect from the network.
