That argument is a long shot, analysts say, because mitochondrial DNA evidence is now typically one of many pieces of evidence used to build cases and most states have allowed it as courtroom evidence.

Thanks for ping...

Haven't followed the trial as of yet, how's it looking for Peterson and the defense? I'd say attacking the DNA is a long shot, if that's all they have. Too many people have been freed based on its conclusions. They can't have it both ways.

"William Shields, a biology professor and DNA expert from SUNY Syracuse, told a judge that hair found in pliers in Scott's boat did not necessarily come from Laci Peterson's head and does not necessarily place the victim on his boat the day of the murder."

Bawaahaaaaaaa! I just heard on radio news that under cross exam, this guy admitted he gets 60% of his income from testifying and he rarely testifies for the prosecution.

If I was a juror I would believe this guy, yes I would. NOT!

William Shields, a biology professor...is NOT a forensic expert.....or a Forensic Scientist...he is just a Biology Teacher that has been used 150 times by various defence lawyers.

Short Day At Peterson Preliminary Trial

POSTED: 10:49 AM PST November 4, 2003

MODESTO, Calif. -- With lead defense attorney Mark Geragos back in Los Angeles attending to another trial, there was a short day scheduled Tuesday for the Scott Peterson preliminary hearing with the first Modesto detective to arrive at the Peterson home on Christmas Eve -- the day Laci Peterson disappeared -- taking the stand.

Detective Jon Evers was cross-examined by defense lawyer Kirk McAllister over what he observed when he arrived at the Peterson home along with two other officers that fateful evening.

Evers told the court he saw a mop and bucket, but on cross-examination admitted that he did not see any water on the kitchen floor nor smell the scent of any cleaning fluid in the air. He also said he heard Peterson talking about his fishing trip with the other officers, but Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Al Girolami would not allow that testimony to be entered into evidence saying it was hearsay.

The court broke for lunch with Giolami saying that he would discuss the contents of nine sealed envelopes when court re-adjourned.
