WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government will pay Linda Tripp, a central figure in the Monica Lewinsky scandal, $595,000 (354,000 pounds) as part of a settlement of lawsuits in which she accused U.S. officials of violating her privacy, court documents show. Tripp's secret tapes of conversations with Lewinsky fuelled the sex scandal that almost brought down former president Bill Clinton. Tripp transferred to a job at the Pentagon from the White House after news of her tape recordings became public. Tripp sued the Defense Department and the U.S. government for privacy violations, including a charge that officials leaked information that she was interviewing for a job at a lower rank and salary than her old job.
Under the settlement, Tripp will be paid $595,000 and she will receive a retroactive increase in her pay grade which will be used to re-calculate her retirement benefits.

The Xlowntoon Administration orchestrated this violation of the Privacy Act by Xlowntoon appointee Kevin Bacon in an attempt to destroy Linda Tripp's career and then attempted to cover their role up.

Good for you Linda.
Now, let's see Mr. Bacon prosecuted and in a Federal Prison cell. I'm thinking Marion would be a good place to start.
Better yet, let's take the settlement out of his personal funds.

It is a pity that the taxpayers should pay for this obvious criminal act of the Clintons - it should that bow-tied s.o.b. Bacon.

I remember when threads in support of Linda Tripp would crash FR. Now, they never get beyond one page worth of responses.
I wish I could say that her place in history and contributions to truth in government haven't been forgotten by Freepers, but I can't. It's a shame.

Isn't it nice to live in a Republic, and think that it is run by people who believe in limited government?
Back in the day, we were flommoxed by the lawlessness in the WH, and forced to wonder if we would even have a peaceful succession. And had the American equivalent of a coup attempt, in the Gore "recount FL until I win" lawsuit.
I for one contributed to LT's defense fund, and I'm glad she has been compensated . . . tho not exactly a princely sum. Rodney King got far more, and he was the lawbreaker in the case.

Agreed, Linda deserves far more money and our undying gratitude (she's got mine!) Everymorning, when I wake up and say 'Thank you Lord that ALGORE isn't president, I should be saying and "Thank you Lord for Linda Tripp." May The Lord bless you and your family Linda. And THANK YOU!

I haven't heard much from Ms. Tripp for a long time. I wonder if she had the chance, would she do it over again?
She went through hell and was incredibly brave to do what she did.

Nothing I've read makes it clear, but I wonder is it possible she is going to get her job back? I know she would welcome the money, but after what this government has put her through, I don't see how she can ever trust us again.

I too pine for the days when FR was more about what unites us than what divides us. Not that I want the twisted one and his shrew back in office mind you.
Linda Tripp deserves much more. She has my eternal gratitude.

This ought to be added to the Clinton deficit instead of the Bush deficit.

I wonder is it possible she is going to get her job back?I assume this is a rhetorical question, since not even Republicans in the current administration are willing to hire Tripp. One major problem with hiring her: she taped the conversations of a co-worker, so who is going to trust working with her again?
For those so interested: Link to copy of Tripp's settlement agreement with the DOD.

Great news.....but she deserves more money.
