Al Qaeda again threatens New York, Washington and Los Angeles - Daily Terror Threat

Monday, November 3, 2003

A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile.

The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.?

The message is signed on behalf of the al Bayan (The Threat) movement by ?your warrior brother, Abul Hassan al Khadrami?.

Our Muslim expert identifies the name of the signatory as belonging to a Yemeni from Hadhrameuth, the Bin Ladens? place of origin where Osama enjoys substantial tribal support.

DEBKAfile?s counter-terror sources stress that warnings appearing on these forums are taken both very seriously and with caution by the intelligence services keeping track of the terrorist network?s electronic traffic.

Last November, Jeddah-based fundamentalist forums addressed a message to an Al Qaeda member, saying whoever understands ? understands; whoever knows, knows, but we are marching towards an operation that will take us to Paradise. Three days later, the Mombasa Paradise hotel was blown up killing 12 Kenyans and 3 Israelis and a failed shoulder-launched Strela anti-air missile missed an Israeli airliner at Mombasa airport.

"U.S. agents in airport spark ire"

"Opposition lawmakers say security checks by U.S. officers violate sovereignty, but their presence is outlined in bilateral treaty."

BY RUTH RODRÍGUEZ AND SERGIO JAVIER JIMÉNEZ/EL UNIVERSAL
January 06, 2004

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Opposition lawmakers on Monday were outraged that U.S. agents were reviewing passenger lists at the Mexico City international airport, despite the existence of past agreements allowing for such measures.

Lawmakers from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) said the presence amounted to a "violation of sovereignty" and demanded an explanation from federal authorities.

Lawmakers also were disturbed by the U.S. VISIT program that went into effect Monday, where foreigners needing visas to visit the U.S. were photographed and had their fingerprints digitally scanned as they arrived at U.S. airports.

The PRD lawmakers suggested Mexico follow Brazil's lead and begin to photograph and fingerprint visiting Americans."

"UK Pilots' Union OKs Use of Sky Marshals"
The Washington Times ^ | Jan 6, 2004 | JANE WARDELL (AP)

Posted on 01/06/2004 10:23:44 PM PST by neverdem

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "LONDON (AP) -- British pilots won assurances from the government Tuesday that they will be told when armed sky marshals are on board their flights, but demanded to know where the guard is seated and to be able to maintain regular contact.

Meanwhile, a British Airways flight from London to Washington, which was canceled twice last week over security fears, was delayed for the fourth consecutive day Tuesday because of U.S.-requested security checks.

On Tuesday, British Air Line Pilots' Association said it would advise its members - nearly 90 percent of Britain's 9,200 commercial pilots - not to fly with a sky marshal until the government tells them otherwise.

The union feels that the armed guards, which the U.S. Homeland Security Department said last week it would require on selected international flights crossing into American airspace, could be a threat to security.

After reluctantly agreeing to the deployment of government-trained and funded sky marshals, the union now wants a clear industrywide standard for its pilots, including legal and financial indemnity in case of shoot-outs.

"We do not agree in principle with having armed police sky marshals, but it is clear that is the way in which the government wishes to go, and we are not going to be in a position to be completely against the government's policies," Jim McAuslan, BALPA's general secretary, said after meeting with Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.

"Our policy remains the same. Until we have an agreed protocol in place, the advice to our members when confronted with a police sky marshal is that you do not fly," McAuslan said.

Earlier, Darling said the U.S. request for sky marshals on trans-Atlantic flights was "a responsible and prudent step at the present time.""

Civil disobedience will not be tolerated.

Leave all your belongings in your dwellings, and enter the buses in an immediate and orderly fashion.

You will be provided with food, water, clothes, and shelter.

Civil disobedience will not be tolerated...

Things seem to be awfully quiet tonight. So here's a question for any Freepers willing to bite. Let's say the worst case happened, a major city is gone. Within hours all major cities are being locked down. What would you do if it came down to this scenario? Anyone already have contingency plans?

Arab translators cheered Sept. 11

WASHINGTON -- In a shocking revelation, an FBI whistleblower claims some Arab-Americans translating Arabic intercepts for the FBI spoke approvingly of the terrorist attacks on America more than two years ago.

Former FBI translator Sibel D. Edmonds says translators of Middle Eastern origin working for the FBI's Washington field office maintain an "us"-versus-"them" attitude that's so strong it may be compromising al-Qaida investigations.

She cited examples of mistranslations and security breaches within the FBI's language division, where translators with Top Secret clearance interpret sensitive terror-related information for agents.

Tell me about it, more on that, two traitors at Gitmo!

Al-Halabi worked as an Arabic language translator at the prison camp for al-Qaida and Taliban suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Shavers said. The Air Force enlisted man knew the Muslim chaplain at the prison who was arrested earlier this month, but it is unclear whether the two arrests are linked, Shavers said.

Air Force Airman Charged With Espionage In July

News4JAX POSTED: 10:36 p.m. EDT September 23, 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Three days after information came out that an Army chaplin on leave from duty counseling suspected terrorists was stopped at NAS Jacksonville carrying classified documents, the defense department confirms that an Air Force translator also leaving Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, was arrested.

Senior Airman Ahmad I. al-Halabi is being held at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, facing 32 criminal charges, Maj. Michael Shavers said.

The translator was arrested more than six weeks before the chaplain, he said.

Al-Halabi is charged with eight counts related to espionage, three counts of aiding the enemy, 11 counts of disobeying a lawful order, nine counts of making a false official statement and one count of bank fraud.

Espionage and aiding the enemy are military charges that can carry the death penalty, said Eugene Fidell, a civilian lawyer in Washington and president of the National Institute of Military Justice. The commanding general in charge of al-Halabi's case would have to decide whether military prosecutors could seek the death penalty in his case, Fidell said.

If the death penalty is an option, the 12-member military jury that hears the case would have to vote unanimously to impose it, Fidell said.

Al-Halabi was based at Travis Air Force Base in California and assigned to a logistics unit there, Shavers said.

Pentagon officials said an investigation into possible security breaches at Guantanamo Bay continues.

About 660 suspected al-Qaida or Taliban members are imprisoned at the U.S. Navy base. American officials are interrogating them for information on the terrorist network.

The military has classified many details about the prison camp and the detainees and has not identified any of the men being held there. Military officials have said the fight against terrorism could be hampered if terrorist groups got such information.

The Muslim military chaplain who ministered to the inmates at the camp, Army Capt. Yousef Yee, was arrested Sept. 10 at NAS Jacksonville after getting off a flight from Guantanamo Bay.

A senior law enforcement official said authorities confiscated classified documents Yee was carrying.

Yee, 35, is being held at a Navy brig in Charleston, S.C. A military magistrate ruled on Sept. 15 there was enough evidence to hold Yee for up to two months while the military investigates.

Al-Halabi was arrested July 23 at NAS Jacksonville, also after getting off a flight from the base in Cuba. The next day, military authorities flew al-Halabi to Travis Air Force Base. At some point later, he was transferred to Vandenberg, Shavers said.

More fuel for the fire:

FBI invites Muslim scholars to preach

WASHINGTON – Even as the FBI takes new heat over the 9-11 report's revelation that it overlooked ties between a Muslim cleric and two of the al-Qaida hijackers, it is putting agents and new recruits through a Muslim sensitivity program that includes inviting Muslim clerics and leaders to preach about the allegedly peaceful attributes of Islam.

National Arab-American and Muslim leaders have made presentations at an FBI training course on civil rights here, and at the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va., as part of "Enrichment Training Sessions" for new special agents there.

In addition, the imam of a large Manhattan mosque has lectured veteran counterterrorism investigators at the FBI's New York field office about misinterpretation of the meaning of jihad in the Koran, the sacred book of Muslims.

...

This is probably old news to some of you, but it's a little concerning to me when taken in the context of the other stories I just linked to.

The Seattle FBI makes a very public point of threatening anybody who might engage in anti-muslim activity.

They say nothing about fighting muslim terror.

As far as I am concerned they are a sick joke and a threat to the U.S.

A few cases against the most egregious and super flagrant offenders have occurred, but it's about 1% of what's out there.
