One local mall has been blanketed with cops in response to a specific threat. I can only assume others are getting similar treatment nationally.
Also, per scanner, CAP is up in the midwest.

Hmmm...Hoover Damn, Niagara Falls- recall all those jihad rantings about "water, water, water"?

sounds like they may even know the "when" something might happen?

sounds like they may even know the "when" something might happen? It sounded like an urgent roundup. The "running against a ticking clock" part gave me a flashback to "The Sum of all Fears". I cannot believe no one else heard this. CNN went to their LA newsroom, and the reporter was the same fellow that covered the earthquake yesterday from the same newsroom. He had sources high up in the LAPD.

Unnamed sources claim they are "running against a ticking clock". I think they said something like "now the biggest investigation in the history of LA".Makes me think that DHS knows the when, and a short list of what's, but doesn't know the where or the who. While dragging potential suspects off the street might inadvertently snag the who, more likely the Feds are hoping someone will talk if forced to eat pork in cell full of Hell's Angels.

Hoover Dam?Like to know how that's going to happen.
Saw a show on cable called "The Dam Busters" about bombing German dams and how difficult it was. A couple of truck bombs on top of the dam won't do it. They'll have to drop a bomb of MOAB power that would detonate and a precise location and even that may not cut it.
To: Quix
I heard they no longer let trucks across it. Is that true?Yes, that is true. When I went over it in July security was pretty tight.

I think when you do the Hoover Dam tour they tell you what it was built to withstand and for the life of me I can't remember anymore.

you are not coming unglued, your points are valid, but its the conclusion that makes no sense. That is, we are doing all of the things you list, but the easiest way to avoid a WMD laden plane from a foreign country is to shut down US airspace to all foreign flights, or at least those from suspect countries. Divert them all to Canada, or ground them. But you don't see that happening, so what does that tell you? Who would be dumb enough in government to do all these preparatory steps yet not take the simplest one that could stop the event in the first place?

thats likely the expanded no fly zone around it.

If these people are looking for the cost to terrorize, the mall has very LOW return on investment. The cost of one of these weapons is extremely high. The target zone is not very rich compared to the economic and strategic impact of a hit on a real resource.
Consumer goods are not a target, despite the wishes of the Simon Mall and Galleria people.

Also re: the hoover Dam it helps to remember that the dam in in pretty desolate country. It is inroute to some busy places and you can get a good crowd looking at it and taking pictures but by no way is it an unmanageable situation. I would rather be on the lookout for a terrorist coming over the dam than one coming into New York or Washington, DC.

what were they waiting for. how many domestic cells have we broken up? 2 or 3? you never hear about any arrests, the idea seemed to be to watch them all and gather intel in the hopes of expanind the net. OK, I can accept that, but at some point you have to bust them before they act. so if that's what is happening, good.

"New Missile Can Reach American Cities"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "U.S. intelligence officials are quietly confirming that China has deployed its newest long-range missile. The Chinese army now has up to 12 Dong Feng 31 (East Wind) missiles, which can deliver nuclear warheads against America.
"China now has approximately 36 intercontinental missiles that can hit the United States 24 older CSS-4 missiles and up to 12 new Dong Feng 31 missiles," said Col. Larry Wortzel, vice president of the Heritage Foundation.
"The Dong Feng 31 missiles can reach Alaska and the western U.S. China has also tested the Dong Feng 31 with multiple warheads," stated Col. Wortzel during a recent Washington conference on missile defense.
The new Dong Feng 31 (DF-31) missiles are attached to the 80304 Unit of the Second Artillery Corps. The 80304 Unit is headquartered in Luoyang, Henan province. Its older CSS-4 missiles can strike targets throughout the United States and Europe.
The new Dong Feng 31 missile can be armed with a single H-bomb with a yield of over 3 million tons of TNT. A single DF-31 missile armed with the huge H-bomb could destroy any major U.S. city including Los Angeles, San Francisco or Seattle.
Recent Chinese tests have shown that the DF-31 can be armed with multiple warheads. The Chinese test-fired a DF-31 armed with three small dummy nuclear warheads. The smaller warheads are based on a stolen U.S. design. Each warhead has the destructive power of 100,000 tons of TNT, or five times the size of the Hiroshima bomb."
