George Bush vs. the Naive Nine [Sen. Zell Miller (D)]
Wall Street Journal ^ | Nov 3, 2003 | Sen. Zell Miller

Edited on 04/23/2004 12:06:05 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

If I live and breathe, and if -- as Hank Williams used to say -- the creek don't rise, in 2004 this Democrat will do something I didn't do in 2000, I will vote for George W. Bush for president.

It means hitting to the opposite (right) field, instead of to your power (left field), to advance a runner. It often means grounding out to second so the runner can advance to either second or third.

Meaning, GWB is willing to sacrifice his own glory for the benefit of the team or the benefit of others. And he doesn't need a coach to give him the sign first.

And I like a man who shows respect for others by starting meetings on time.

Small, yet very personal dig at the klintoon, who was notorious for starting meeting late. I like it.

Of course, when you think you are the center of the universe, what's the problem with making other people wait for you?

Look closely, there's not much difference among them. I can't say there's "not a dime's worth of difference" because there's actually billions of dollars' worth of difference among them. Some want to raise our taxes a trillion, while the others want to raise our taxes by several hundred billion. But, make no mistake, they all want to raise our taxes.

If they had their way, only conservatives would pay taxes.

I like the fact that he's the same on Saturday night as he is on Sunday morning.

It must be difficult to be stuck in the Liberal Quagmire, unable to gain traction on an issue that works, sliding inexorably downward, particularly as some of your own senators are turning against you.

Maybe their prescriptions on Iraq apply here: more candidates, more ammunition, more intellectual equipment, more motorcycling and hunting photo ops, more face time to explain, apologize, rescind, recover, repoll, restate.

Probably not.

More candor? Out of the question!

Republicans DO pay most of the taxes!!! Liberals have their money in bank accounts.

"hitting behind the runner" What does that quote mean?

It's a baseball "strategery" for doing what is best for the team rather being a Democratic Manny Ramirez and doing what is best for the big "I" as X42 did.

The country needs to hear this every day. Too bad it takes a Democrat to tell it.
