How Democrats lost the South
Wasgington Times ^ | 11/03/03 | Zell Miller

Edited on 07/12/2004 4:09:55 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

Once upon a time, the most successful Democratic leader of them all, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, looked south and said, "I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished."

Today our national Democratic leaders look south and say, "I see one-third of a nation and it can go to hell."

The Old South has a higher percentage of Blacks than any other region, save for Northern Cities. Given this high population percentage, Affirmative Action and other Federal Programs that give Blacks Preferences have hurt White Males in a fashion that has ingrained a hatred for the disparity championed by the Democrats. All the Democrat pandering to Blacks to win the Cities of the North have resulted in a population of Whites in the South who hate the Effect of Democrat Politics; they now vote Republican and have been pushed into becoming Conservative as the first Lie of the Democrat Platform, e.g., Equal Rights is proven to be unfair and unjust....

The liberals antagonized their white southern base in the 60s with integration. First it was Robert Kennedy then Johnson drove them out of the Democratic party.

Actions have consequences.

Yes, despite it all, Zell voted for Daschle for majority leader. Go figure.

I think Zell still believes in the Democratic Party. He probably feels that it's been hijacked by the radicals - kind of like how a moderate Muslim might feel about the Islamists. Of course, one must ask of either group: is it salvageable?

2004 Candidates on the Confederate Flag

CLARK: "The Confederate flag undermines the values that Americans care deeply about - equality, diversity and inclusion," Matt Bennett, the retired general's campaign spokesman, said Sunday. "The general strongly believes that every Democratic candidate needs to condemn the divisiveness represented by the Confederate flag."

DEAN: The statement came after comments by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, also a Democratic presidential hopeful, that he wanted "to be the candidate for guys with Confederate flags in their pickup trucks."

Affirmative Action and other Federal Programs that give Blacks Preferences have hurt White Males in a fashion that has ingrained a hatred for the disparity championed by the Democrats.

This is true, however, more and more white Southern males these days are coming to the realization that the Repubs that really matter and Big Business harbor just as much hatred and ill will toward them as the Democrats do; maybe even more.

Don't think we didn't notice GWB praising and celebrating the University of Michigan decision. Don't think that 50 year old white Southern male working for that large corporation with 25 years of senority and a great work record isn't angry as hell when he is passed over for a promotion in favor of some black with far less senority and a less than sterling work record who struts around all day gangsta rappin'. Meanwhile, he is called on the carpet for even the slighest, and many times, trumped up BS infraction. And last, but not least, don't think we haven't noticed how this Administration looks the other way as our country is being flooded with illigal third world aliens and all the negative ramifications that comes with them.

Yep, people like the Bushes and their corporate, one worlder friends have pulled the wool over our eyes for many years now, but many of us are slowly pulling the blinkers away, and we don't like what we see at all. There is a more populist tone around here these days. That doesn't mean that the Dems will ever get our votes again, but it does mean that any candidate will have to directly address issues like affirmative action and illigal immigration in the future to get our votes.

I like your listing the Dem candidates positions on the Confederate flag. Before the primaries are over you ought to have a full page.

That is what is happening on Bush's watch.

Your reference about "some black" has a racist whiff to it.

Politics is the art of negotiation. Federal judges made the ruling on the UM Case. There was some, in small venue, victory for anti-AA forces, e.g., the Bush Administration. However, to think that Bush and his Administration are happy with the general ruling is a misnomer. Once the 2004 elections are over, provided that Bush is reelected, the face of National politics will take a hard turn against the "liberal coalation" of democrat fringe groups (gays, anti-Christians, Abortionists, Education Interests of the Left, and lesser kooks); Additionally, on the Internation scene, the Europeans and the UN membership will resign themselves to finally dealing with a Republican Administration having shot their collective WADS in truning opinion domestically (in concert with the Democrats) against Bush as much as possible, and internationally as well. The Well will be Dry for those who hampered this Administration's efforts. It is one thing to be President in the first Term, it is quite another to see the benefit to the party and Business in the Second.

You almost sound disaffected and possibly Democrat, or the ever popular Independent Voter:) Sorry if I muss, but I think all your fears and disappointments will be resolved "this week" next year! We will all see the benefit of Quiet Strength manifest in this President and the power of his Administration dealing with the detractors.

On another note, the political landscape is a changing for the Democrats as guys like Kennedy, MASS., are in their final nasty death throws of self destruction. The Socialist machine in Europe is being hauled into a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy of sorts as they redefine the medical, health, insurance benefits for the financially bankrupt states - a key issue for EU hatred of Bush as the prospierty in the US grows against the recessions arcoss Euroland (I live here and "almost" feel bad for them). US State Governorships will probably increase for Republicans, as will Congressional seats and a few more Senator seats. The division of Republican-Democrat seats that the State and Local levels continue to switch 5-10% per election towards the Republican majority.

Finally, your points are heartfelt and of concern to me as well, its just the bigger picture oftentimes is overlooked by the small battles the Democrats pile before "US...A" in an attempt to satisfy their Kook Fringe membership which is less than 10% of the total party voting.... I think Bush will right the wrongs of which you have spoken in his second term and the Country will be receptive to rolling back those "benefits" to minorities and all else who do nothing to deserve them.
