My heartfelt prayers to you and your family.
Reading about the kinship and love between you and your father makes me wonder why the relationship between my father and I has deteriorated from a similar love and kinship. We have officed about 15 feet apart for 8 years (that might be part of it), but after reading your account, I (once again) realize that things on earth must be cherished while they are here, for they will certainly be missed when they are gone.
May our Heavenly Father comfort you in your time of loss.

....a poem I keep to comfort me after my daughters death 20 years ago, from the book by Dr. Billy Graham "Death and the Life After"
The Other Side
This isn't death~~it's glory!
It is not dark~~it's light!
It isn't stumbling, groping,
Or even faith~~it's sight!
This isn't grief~~it's having
My last tear wiped away;
It's sunrise~~it's the morning
Of my eternal day!
This isn't even praying~~
It's speaking face to face;
Listening and glimpsing
The wonders of His grace.
This is the end of pleading
For strength to bear my pain;
Not even pain's dark memory
Will ever live again.
How did I bear the earth~life
Before I knew this rapture
Of meeting face to face
The One who sought me, saved me,
And kept me by His grace!

Just remember, everything you learned from your father is still with you. He'll be in your heart forever and you can call on his good teachings whenever you need.
I felt the same way about my father and I still miss him even though he has been gone for almost 22 years. The day after my dad died, my 8 siblings and I had an impromptu "grief fest." We gathered in what he used to call The Music Room and looked at pictures of him, cried, shared memories of our individual experiences as his children, played his favorite music selections, laughed, and cried a lot more. It was very cathartic for all of us and I hope you're able to do some of this type of thing with your relatives. And you always have this huge family at FreeRepublic.
God bless you and give you and your family strength.

My deepest sympathy. This hits awfully close to home.
May the Lord grant you strength and faith during this sad and difficult time. May your father be in the loving arms of our Lord where he shall reside eternally free from suffering and pain. We ask these favors in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Sincerest condolences. You are so very fortunate to have such a wonderful father.
To: reagan_fanatic
Your loss is very palpable, even through this medium. Yet, we do not grieve as those that have no hope, for we know that absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Your dad isn't dead--only his physical body is dead. He is more alive now in heaven than you or I can possibly imagine.
Make it your life's work to instill his goodness into your children. It is the best way to honor him. It is your turn now.
And be thankful that you have a Dad as wonderful as yours.It is only a shadow of the wonderful heavenly Father we have looking out for us. A heavenly Father who knows what it is like to have a loved one separated from Him by death.
That's why He has defeated death.
And your dad would tell you exactly that right now.

God Bless you and your family. I lost my Dad last March; yesterday would have been his 67th birthday. He was to me what your father was to you. I thank God everyday for making him my Dad. I miss him terribly.

You are a truly blessed man to have such a love for your father. And an even greater blessing is your assurance that this is only a temporary separation.
If you read this reply, may I ask you in passing to pray for my dads salvation? I envy you, because of the love so obvious in your words. Even through the pain of your loss, please try to understand that I wish I was in your shoes, sure of the future, that you will spend eternity with him.
