My father died this morning.
After a sudden bout with the flu in which he was kept overnite in a hospital, his weak heart was no longer able to put up a fight. He was 77 years old. My beliefs, my personality, my love for other people all flowed from his veins. Thoughout childhood to my now 42 years, he was always there for me, visiting his grandchildren as often as he could, bringing over his latest photo album (he had so many!) so he could show me pictures of his latest seniors trip or church function. It was difficult for him in his last few years, but never once did he moan or complain. The only thing that mattered was seeing his children and grandchildren, and spreading the joy that was in his beautiful heart.
I know without a doubt I am a better man because of him and his love.
Dad, I love you. My life will never be the same without you in it. You will always be there by my side. I will see you again, soon, and we will all celebrate the love you instilled in me and everyone you touched.
May you now be with the Lord Jesus in paradise. Thank You for being such a wondeful, sweet father.
I will never forget you.

Sincerest condolences. I'll pass on what a friend told me on my own Dad's passing - "I'll be praying for you, because that's what he's doing right now."

Prayers and condolences. It sounds like you and dad had a wonderful and full relationship, more than many. Count your blessings for that and stay strong with his memories...

Prayers are with you. Your words brought tears to my eyes and freshened the memory of losing my dad 4 years ago.
But the knowledge that they are with Jesus and that we will see them again in Heaven brings a peace that only the Lord can bring.
May God hold your family in His loving hands at this time and use this to only strengthen your own faith.
Your dad is home now. Bless you and your family.

My mom died suddenly about two years ago and I told someone at the time that you consciously don't have any idea of what a large portion of the background/landscape of your life that your parents occupy until they die.
The feeling has got to be akin to waking one morning in Colorado and finding the Rocky Mountains have disappeared. That's what it feels like inside.
You're in my prayers.

My India Pastor described his mother leaving him as she passed on to her Glory on this day! It sounds as if your father has also! I know you will miss him even though it is to a better place he goes!

Wow...talk about coincidences..I lost my dad in 94..the same day..and the same age..he dies of prostrate cancer...ever since then, I've been unable to enjoy Halloween...he uised to come up to the hosue every Halloween, because we always got home late, and the little trick-or treaters on our block started in the afternoon, so he loved handing out the candy..he had this "fright" wig he'd wear..the kids loved it...I don't get an enjoyment from the goings-on, ever since...the other thing that amazed me about the experience is that a week later, my mom called in hysterics..because $950 dollars had been debited from her checking account....my parents, like most, had their SS checks direct deposited..and if you know how the system works...the deposists hit the last day of the preceeding month..i.e. Halloween...so, he wasn't entitled to next month's (Nov's) check..no problem...but I still can't figure out how the big government found out about it within a week, an d pulled the money back...my Mom, who's quite conservative, still jokes about it....now, she wants to know why they could find that money in a week, but they can't find the WMD?...
I trust he's in a better place...and time does heal...my prayers to you and your family..and I hope this little narrative makes you smile..no doubt, you can use one..

I love the lyrics of this hymn. I hope you do too.
"How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds"
by John Newton, 1735-1807 How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer's ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole
And calms the troubled breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul
And to the weary, rest.
Dear name! The Rock on which I build,
My Shield and Hiding-place;
My never-failing Treasury filled
With boundless stores of grace.
By Thee my prayers acceptance gain
Although with sin defiled.
Satan accuses me in vain,
And I am owned a child.
Jesus, my Shepherd, Guardian, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.
Weak is the effort of my heart
And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I'll praise Thee as I ought.
Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death.
