Editor's note: Ted Dickason, a candidate for Modesto City Schools board of trustees, has stated that he believes evolution and creationism should be taught side by side in high school science classes. This position has generated substantial debate in the community, including this article opposing the teaching of creationism in schools and the two letters to the editor to the right supporting creationism and/or Dickason.

Cheap Trick behind the most devasting lie in the history of mankind "I want you to want me" is the most devastating lie in the history of mankind? Hey, it might be a bit insincere, but let's not go overboard.

A parting thought. America does have enemies, very subtle communist and socialist enemies, many from within. It is known that a unprincipled, immoral, amoral, Godless, heathenistic populace will not not put up as much of a fight against change that will eventually end America has mankind's best last chance for Freedom as people with morals, beliefs and principles. The indoctrination of our impressionable children in the belief of evolution is one way to achieve such a population.

The existence of the Scrolls convinces me that people were writing down what "is written". I don't have a problem with the assertion that something was written before the Dead Sea Scrolls, but what? Translating the Scrolls themselves are problematical, and they are fragmentary.

What is it that you want to discuss?
To: Right Wing Professor
Gosh, the fidelity of the transmission has to be a worry, then. Oral history tends to accumulate embroidery. The Iliad and Odyssey started as historical record, and ended up with Cyclops and people turned into animals. I'm not very worried about the fidelity of those two works. They were in verse, so those who memorized them were constrained by that format. Not a whole lot of room to tinker with the text.

I know little about the scrolls. I was just responding to the -- since retracted -- suggestion that there were no written documents prior to the scrolls. I think it's pretty safe to assume there were. I am astonished though, at how spotty and fragile the written record is.

* Abuse button hit.* Here's the text:
Regarding #185
Not to try to fix a wrong by repeating it, but this person is abusing the "Abuse" button and the Admin Modertor ping.
I realize that these crevo threads are not the favorite of the management, but the issues discussed are important to the direction of conservatism.
People are talking here. This poster is simply trying to get the thread pulled. He's done a good job of hanging up the phone on the conference call for everybody on at least one previous thread. I suggest at minimum that he be warned that this stop.
(Complaint was signed.)

Re: Dead Sea Scrolls. I had the pleasure of seeing the exhibit of some of the scrolls at the Library of Congress in 1994. I love controversies over museum exhibits. Most people will never know more about a topic than what they saw in a museum, or maybe on PBS, so whoever writes the little explanatory cards next to the exhibits gets to write history.
An alternative version of the exhibit's explanatory cards can be found here:

Thank you for your post! There has long been a tradition among the children of Israel to record the Law and the Prophets with the greatest diligence. However, for at least as long (and longer according to some) there has been a tradition of passing down the secrets of Jewish mysticism orally. As I understand they believed the secrets much too powerful to be put in writing where they could be misused. This is the meaning of the term Kabbala.
The Jewish Kabbala however was at least partially recorded in Spain about 1300 (as I recall) and has recently become fodder for a lot of new age mysticism as well - so it requires considerable effort to separate the two schools of thought to discern the truly ancient thinking.

possibly, nebulas gas to star clusters to super nova death, degradation. Ya'll think way too much! Some have a more lengthy and intense indoctrination tham others. Step back a little and look around.

When I asked about hitting the abuse button, I did not realize that the mods consider pinging Admin or Jim Robinson is tantamount to hitting the abuse button.
I pinged the mods myself quite a bit recently, but won't anymore.
This is something that the evolutionist ping list appears to have agreed to, as well.
At any rate, what I was trying to get at is that I know you don't like the evolutionist/creationist debates, and wish they would go away. So my point was, do you hit abuse just because you don't like the threads? Or only when somebody is being nasty? That's the question in a nutshell.
But first I will remove the speck from my eye, or maybe it's a log, who knows? ;^)

We can understand this most easily by referring to the works of P.D.Q. Bach (the youngest and oddest of J.S. Bach's 20-odd offspring.)
"As Hyperion across the flaming sky, his chariot did ride, so Iphigenia herself in Brooklyn found." (Most people didn't know Iphigenia ever visited Brooklyn, and whether she saw the Tree Growing or the Dodgers Dodging.)
Hyperion rode his chariot with deliberate intent, but Iphigenia found herself in Brooklyn by accident.

Thank you so much for your post!
But the biggest irony of all is that some creationists (not you) argue that scientists are a cabal of liars, but Biblical scholars never lie or make mistakes - except that they can't agree among themselves what the Book means, anyway.
It makes me very sad to see Christians get angry over the Scriptures. Some difference in interpretation is a good thing and appears to be well within the grace of Christ. I say this because the twelve disciples were very different personalities and argued among themselves causing the Gospel to be spread more widely - such as in the Barnabas/Paul split after the dispute in Jerusalem with Peter over the applicability of Jewish law to the Gentiles. Likewise, in Revelation, Christ speaks to different churches with different attitudes and emphasis.
But the Gospel is clear in John 1 - that Christ Himself is the Word of God made flesh, that the Word was from the beginning and is with and is God. The Law began much later, with Moses. Also in John, Christ assures us that the Comforter (the Holy Spirit) will lead us into Truth.
And this has been my experience as well. My eyes read the Bible, but the Spirit within me reads the Word.
The Scriptures are alive when the Word is revealed and therefore they ought never be the subject of anger or hate. Sigh...
