Police: Robbery Victim Used Truck to Run Down, Kill Gunman The Associated Press Published: Oct 30, 2003
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A restaurant owner who was held up at gunpoint jumped in his truck, pursued the robber and ran the man down, killing him, police said. Police said they didn't know yet if Lawrence Storer, 33, would be charged in the Wednesday night incident downtown. He was not taken into custody.
Storer said he was sitting in his Ford Explorer outside the Thai restaurant he owns at about 11:30 p.m., taking a break from some renovation work, police spokesman Joe Durkin said. A man approached on foot, stuck a chrome handgun in his face and demanded money.
The robber walked Storer inside the restaurant to get some money. When the man was distracted, Storer ran from the building and called 911 on his cell phone, Durkin said.
When the man saw Storer on the phone, he ran from the business. Storer got in his Explorer and caught up with the man about two blocks away, striking him with the front of the truck, Durkin said. He was dead at the scene.
Durkin said police weren't sure how fast Storer was driving or whether the robber was walking or running when he was hit. He was identified as Shantavious Wilson, 24.
A chrome-plated pellet gun, which Durkin said was indistinguishable from a real weapon, was found near the body.

Ummm...sorry, I don't see a downside to this.
Especially considering Wilson was released from Florida State Prison on 9/23 after doing 5 years for Felon in Possession, Armed Robbery, and Violation of Probation for lewd and lascivious on a CHILD.
He was a scumbag.
This is the Clearest Case of DSAF I think I have seen to date.

Ummm...sorry, I don't see a downside to this. You heartless monster! This was unfortunate, a real tragedy from which anyone with an appreciation for justice could hope is never to be repeated again.
That poor Explorer! It may have suffered body damage, not to mention oxidation of its paint from the blood from that piece of human trash. A good and reliable truck deserves better....

D'Gallandro, may I ask where you found that information on Wilson? I couldn't bring up anything on him other than riding his bike the wrong way on a one-way street. Is my Google defective?

On a serious note, if this hero gets in trouble, I really hope he gets pardoned.

Enter his name.
Note that he had no bond and that he was released to State Prison.
Google Search: Florida Department of Corrections.

Enter his name again.
BINGO, you have his release date from state prison, and what he was in for. Note that the lewd and lascivious was a SIX YEAR PROBATION...no jail time.
We're not gonna comment on that one.

That's the same comment my father would have made. "Poor guy ruined his Explorer."

You are absolutely right. Shauntavious Wilson should also be charged, posthumously, with destruction of property...and littering.
Please forgive my heartless oversight of the damage to a fine automobile.

I am worried about this. If a person runs after someone and hurts them, that's assault, it's murder if he kills the person. If a business owner defends himself and shoots someone who robs him of money, it might be OK in the eyes of a jury, since he's protecting his livelihood.
Not that I am sorry the bad guy got squished, I am just thinking that the court system will try to step in here and interfere with what looks very much like justice to me!

I'm hoping it gets pleaded down to "Improper Waste Disposal": a non-criminal violation.

In any other SUV story they blame the SUV. Now when an SUV is used as a good thing, in self defense, it's not even mentioned in the title. Media bias I tell ya! Go figure.

Unbelievable. I cannot find the words to describe how sharp the individuals on Free Republic are. This is THE website to come to find out secular truth. I'm going to post a story and list some links I have to finding information...hopefully others will contribute and the story can be bookmarked and brought up every now and then as a source to get more information. Maybe even Jim could post a link on his website to a reference page like that to more easily enable all of us to do research.
Thank you for your post from the bottom of my heart.

In related news, a man attempting to hijack a car in Tampa last night was shot in the chest and killed by his intended victim. No charges filed.

Shantavious - the Kalabarians have an explanation for his actions! WEll, I don't know about the depth of their observation, but there may be at least a certain general accuracy on a point or two they make:
Your name of Shantavious makes you quick-minded, versatile, and very expressive. You are adaptable and creative in responding to new situations. This name has given you an interest in people and a desire for new experiences. You have the ability to create a favourable first impression,
[He certainly made an impression on the front grille of that Explorer...!]
