I don't know about at the time of the vote, but Lieberman has been around for the McCain/Lieberman global warming BS. Also the cloture vote for Pickering today had three who didn't vote, I didn't check, but wouldn't be suprised if it was the same three.

They accused lawmakers of using the Western wildfires to open federal forests to new logging, including the cutting of mature trees.

These environmentalists are wacko. Who the heck wants to cut down saplings? Of course its the mature trees that will get cut. Shhheeessshhhh

What are you talking about? I am bashing the Clinton/Babbitt environmental policies. I am for the Bush common sense forest initiative that passed and there should have been a common sense approach a long time ago.

The interior department reports that over 90% of requests for permits for clearing operations were approved, and many of those contested were eventually improved.

You obviously have never lived in SoCal or in Texas. Do you know the redtape you have to go through to get a permit approved -- if you are lucky the Sierra Club will not file a lawsuit against you but then you might have some endangered species like a bird that lives in half the counties in Texas so your permit will be turned down or a lawsuit filed.

The only reason this bill of President Bush's passed is because of the forest files in SoCal. There would have been another one of their filibusters if there were no fires. I am bashing the DemocRATs in the Senate that voted against this bill and will continue to bash them and Clinton/Babbitt along with the environmentalist for the absolute worst environmental rulings/policy this country has ever known.

BTW, try and cut down an old cedar tree in South Texas and see what happens to you -- one big fine headed your way because of a bird! Rather let cedar spread and take away grazing land.

Your statement about Congress is obviously from someone who has never lived around The Sierra Club and other enviornmental groups and their wacko policies. Only democRATs voted against this bill and from the East -- that should tell you something.

I heard today that it costs the homeowners $1,000 PER TREE to be removed, even IF they got that permit. A lot of them were taking out seconds on their homes just for this purpose.

Although I would like to see the Senate adopt a far more extensive rule change, this is a good first step, and I am glad that the Presidents Healthy Forest Intiative has passed. I especially like Senator Feinstein's admission that the forests need to be managed. Here is a link to a Free Republics Healthy Forest discussion thread. The first link is a Whitehouse web site and the second link is a thread with a ton of background news articles. Hopefully some open minded reporter will take it upon him or herself to elevate the rationale discussion of our nations forests. Lord knows that the current state of natural resource reporting is beyond pathetic.

Thank you Arizona Kathy, PhiKapMom and the rest of you FReepers for all your hard work in promoting resposible forest management.

In addition to the Healthy Forest Initiative, the administration is also making internal policy changes to the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management small timber sale policy. Specifically, the administration is providing the legal justification for exempting small projects from excessive environmental review. This complies with a court order from several years ago that invalidated the "categorical exemption" status that the agencies had been using to streamline the environmental review process. The court invalidated the agencies rationale and asked for more extensive documentation that these projects did not pose a significant adverse effect to the environment. Thankfully, the Bush administration has given the court what it asked for, and it appears that this exemption will be reinstated. Here is the link to this policy change: Forest Service Establishes New Timber Sale Rules

Great News!

Too bad so many innocent people had to burn to death in S Calfornia plus the massive property damage before the Senate woke up about the Watermelon Green Jihadists.

This has to be the worse defeat the Watermelon Green Jihadists have ever had, and the best news for the rest us in decades.

A good first step. It is my fond hope that, noe that devastating fires have hit close to an urban, populated area, that the environMENTALists will now be ignored by serious people, as they deserve. I would LOVE it if they are the targets of lawsuits by those who lost their homes or family members.

As for the three Orcs (I refuse to slander elves in this manner) who couldn't find the time in their busy campaign schedules to vote, the senate should adopt rules docking the pay of any member who misses votes. We should not be paying people who do not do their work.

Furthermore, rules should be adopted forcing the resignation of legislators who decide to run for President, as it is obvious that doing so prevents them from doing their current jobs.

Gee Judith Anne tell us how you really feel about the Watermelon Jihadists. Don't soften your words like you did on this reply:

What REALLY ticks me off about this is that they're using millions in tax money, that if the forests had been allowed to be logged, would be MONEY PRODUCING instead of another frikken TAX DRAIN on the average working American.

Bleeping econazis! I hope they all rot!

And Bayh -- which seems a bit surprising. I guess Cantwell has written off even trying to get any votes outside of Seattle.

Some good news.

The senate should have move on this last year after President Bush was in Medford, Oregon and presented this iniative.

However, it took all those deaths in California and over 500,000 burnt up acres and 1,000s of homes to do it.

No one in the senate really cared last year when Oregon, N. California, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico had terrible fires.

Even the first class b$tch Boxer backed away and voted yes. I'm sure that her focus groups told her that if she voted no, she was doa in the political waters of California. Hell we might arrange a recall of her a$$ and box her up with Herr Davis for disposal if she had voted no on this bill.
