(Washington, DC - October 30, 2003) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's comparison of last week's raids of Wal-Mart stores and the arrest of more than 300 suspected illegal aliens employed there to "terrorism" was beyond the pale, charges the Federation for American Immigration Reform. In a letter to Ms. Pelosi, FAIR executive director Dan Stein also points out her disingenuity in calling for greater focus on employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens at the same time she is blocking all efforts to make employers more accountable.
While Pelosi argued that there "should be more focus on the employer and less in these terrorizing raids," Tuesday she voted against a measure that would have continued to fund a pilot project that allows employers to verify the work eligibility of those they hire. "It appears that what the Congresswoman really wants is no enforcement at all," commented Stein. "If she really wants to hold employers accountable, then it's time to match her rhetoric with action," he added.
Noting that the United States is engaged in a worldwide battle against terrorism, Stein strongly criticized the Minority Leader for her choice of words. "Anything that equates, or even gives the appearance of equating, the law enforcement policies with this country with the actions of international criminals is both wrong and damaging to our ability to confront real terrorist," wrote Stein.
While urging more judicious use of language, Stein also noted that the sentiment of Ms. Pelosi's statement was troubling. "The idea that the House Minority Leader would publicly criticize federal immigration enforcement authorities for doing precisely what is in their job descriptions and what Congress has authorized them to do only emboldens those who violate our immigration laws."
While Ms. Pelosi charges immigration enforcement authorities with "terrorizing" immigrants, FAIR asserted that policies that she herself has supported place the nation at real risk to international terrorists. "The same lax policies that allow Wal-Mart to employ armies of illegal aliens to clean their stores, also allow al-Qaeda to infiltrate terrorist cells," Stein wrote.
FAIR strongly supports increased workplace enforcement, against both the employers and the illegal aliens themselves, and has repeatedly called upon federal immigration authorities to increase their interior enforcement of immigration laws.
Is she as stupid as this makes her look?
"It appears that what the Congresswoman really wants is no enforcement at all," commented Stein.
"If she really wants to hold employers accountable, then it's time to match her rhetoric with action," he added.
This is the reason she was forced down the throats of the House members as minority leader she ia a past master at making divisive statements to the print media by her slobbering, petulant and whining remarks so typical of the pissing and moaning, lying Dem liberals.
What a maroon!
Dan Stein and F.A.I.R. is one of the few road blocks stopping amnesty for illegals. He always makes alot of sense.
