[history]
In 22 years, Mahathir has delivered rapid economic development.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (CNN) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad will step down as leader Friday minus much of the pomp and ceremony usually befitting a 22-year stint in power.

Not one word about Mahathir's recent infamous "Jews rule the world" speech and his call for the Islamic world to unite against the Jews. Instead we read how his legacy is intact, or that he's a "nice guy". This is a military dictator who brooked no opposition for 22 years, isn't it?

Man, that Joe Havely's really got his head buried in old Mahathir's lap, huh?

Maybe Krugman's advice was more useful to him than it was to Ken Lay.

Just another example of CNN's objective style of reporting...always telling both sides of the story.

Loved and loathed in equal measure, few would dispute that throughout his 22 years in power Malaysia's outgoing Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has been a man with a vision.Yes, visions of Holocaust II.

Actually, he's had a lot of opposition--from radical Muslims! He brought incredible prosperity to Malaysia and that has been controversial to a culture that does not believe in the concept of progress like we do here. He's been very good for his country. That's why I was very surprised when he made his infamous remarks last week. I hope that his successor has a forward-loking vision of prosperity.

Hmmmm...couldn't find where it says why he is stepping down, did I miss something? In other recent news, also offering to resign is the
President Mohammad Khatami of Iran, but like someone said on that thread, unless he takes the mullahs with him, it won't be much of a change, might be even worse if the mullahs gain more control.

<<[Madhatir] bought Malaysia the unprecedented [Destruction of] ..... the independence of institutions such as the judiciary, the media and the professional police force." >>
Madhatir took a bustling and prosperous and FRee British Malaya in which every Malaysian enjoyed every benefit of Roman/English Rule of Law and turned it into the looted ruled by law land of institutionalized racism and abjectly corrupt cronyism in which the media, the "judiciary" and the "police force" are but the political tools of the lying, looting, thieving, self-enriching ruling cronies.
Just like those of the neighborhood's other self-serving petty dictator, Singapore's self-styled [Post-Raffles] "creator" Harry "dah Lawyer" Lee Kwan Yew.

The headline you will NEVER see on CNN:
Loved and loathed in equal measure, few would dispute that throughout his 8 years in power America's outgoing President George W. Bush has been a man with a vision.

Allow me to edit.
Labeled at times as a reactionary, a racist and even dictatorial, even Hideki Tojo's critics concede that Japan's fortunes owe much to the leadership of the man known by millions simply as "Dr T".
Can I get a job with CNN now ?

Also, there is nothing on Mahathir and Al Qaida. From 1988-1998 Mahathir played footsie with the Islamist radicals, and Malaysia was a safe-haven for the Rohingya bandits from Burma, the Islamic fanatics from Thailand, Abu Sayyaf from the P.I., and a variety of crazies from Indonesia.
