CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - City leaders voted to move a Ten Commandments monument out of a public park after an anti-gay preacher proposed his own monument saying slain college student Matthew Shepard is in hell. The Rev. Fred Phelps said displaying the Ten Commandments monument would force the city to allow other public displays as well, including his own.

Like I've said before, Phelps is the left's straw-man. He is owned by the left, he does their bidding. This was his desired outcome.

His $15,000 display would bear a bronze placard with Shepard's portrait and an inscription reading: "Matthew Shepard entered hell October 12, 1998, at age 21 in defiance of God's warning: 'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is abomination.' Leviticus 18:22."
How many on FR are closet Phelps admirers?

This Phelps guy is vile. No one knows where Matthew Shepard is right now. I'm very anti-special-rights for homosexuals, but I'm anti-Aholery, too, and I'm not siding with this man.

closet?

Seems to me that the guy put himself in God's seat. I don't plan on saying anyone is in hell right now, except:
Hitler
Stalin
half of the other Soviet leaders (probably more).

If you want to know what Phelps is all about then look at what he accomplishes. Everywhere he goes he advances the homosexual movement. He is their biggest supporter. No one is more effective at advancing the immoral liberal agenda than Phelps.

Sarah McMullen, a spokeswoman for Shepard's mother, Judy, declined comment other than to say "The Shepards and the entire community of Casper have chosen to confront Mr. Phelps' reprehensible behavior with silence." Wasn't "Silence = Death" one of the big slogans of the sodomites not that long ago? Now "Silence = Disdain"? I'm confused.
Phelps is a nutjob. I don't see "Thou Shalt Harass" among the Ten Commandments. I wish both sides would just shut up and leave the citizens to do what they wish. It's their community. Let them decide what monuments to display and where to display them. But since the courts have said communities are too stupid to make up their own minds on such issues, you get all these dimbulbs coming out of the woodwork.
My city has big statue of Stevie Ray Vaughn overlooking the river. I may not care for Mr. Vaughn's music, lifestyle or message but I don't think I have the right to go crying to the courts to have them move the statue or put a tarp over it. Geez, grow up everyone!

That's an idea, though. Claim to be offended by the statue. Maybe you'll score some points with people that normally wouldn't think that way.

Do NOT agree with Phelps-Nor with the ACLU .The decision to move the monument was their decision. But the snotnosed
boy in a suit who said display of the TenCommandments in
that park meant they had to open the park to all forums. Is
flat wrong.IF the display had been in that park since first
accepted as legal-there should be No case. And that the
display has been accepted cannot be construed to mean that
any/all other displays must likewise be accepted.else we could have some other nutcase insisting on display of some
ones hand flipping the bird. Case closed.

Not sure if you intended it or not, but the format of your post looks like some sort of free verse poetry, written by James Joyce.

It would seem that the days of having common sense prevail are over for good.

Have the city sell a bedroom sized piece of property to a private individual, for a fair market value price.
Move the monument to the property.
End of problem.

THere used to be a time when common sense won out. You could keep the Big 10 and tell this jerk where to go. Now we bow down to this twisted thinking. Wyoming used to be free. Now my home state is falling into the same mental traps as the rest of the country
