[history]
Some leading Democrats are moving to stake out more conservative positions on gun rights, reconnecting with "people of faith," and even voting to ban partial-birth abortion as the 2004 election approaches.
Polls have shown that liberal positions on social issues have cost Democrats elections in the past decade, and strategists are urging Democrats to stake out positions in the political center.

I don't suppose, sadly, that there's any chance of urging them to move to, say, Pitcairn Island? Zimbabwe, possibly? Etah, Greenland?
Ah, well, such is life.

This is wrong!
The only problem the Rats have is their message is not getting out because of the Republican lock on the media.
The Rats have to put more effort into letting people know their liberal progressive positions:
President Bush is evil.
Taxes are way too low.
Spending is way too low.
Killing babies is good.
Banning guns and ignoring the Bill of Rights is good.
The US should not have defended itself and remained a punching bag for terrorists.
Gray Davis was a great liberal progressive Governor.
President Bush stole the 2000 election. Never mind that Algore lost every count and recount.
Saddam Hussein was/is a great guy.
President Bush is evil and a threat to the world.

It's all about finding more effective ways to lie.
The Democrat agenda of belittling and destroying traditional America and its culture and families will remain in full force. These "move to the center" trial balloons are just another part of the con job.
Why should Americans vote for a party that needs to urge its politicians to give a rat's behind about traditional American values when there is a party which is already there and has been all along?
To: kattracks
They've caused so much damage to the social health of the nation, and now they are trying to back away from the rot they've created. Little wonder that the DLC spokesman says "Voters are going to assume the worst unless we set them straight."

Amy Sullivan of Princeton University said Democrats need to connect with people of faith by "genuinely expressing their own religious faith," by "distancing themselves from militant 'secularists,' and speaking out about the moral health of the country."
But that's their whole problem. These ideological Democrats see the Democratic Party as their religion, as the highest arbiter of right and wrong.

I do hope the democrat voters hear about this and realize it is all fake just to get elected. It just amazes me that they actually say these things and their voters don't notice? Or is it that they don't get it?

Do they really think this is going to get them anywhere? Does anybody, anywhere believe the Demonrats when in an attempt to retain power they temporarily pretend to be anything other than the Commie scum they really are?
Last time I looked, the Demonrats' anti-gun position was written right into their party platform. When are they going to remove it?
I'll believe they've really changed when they start actively working to UNDO some of the damage they've done - to deconstruct the nanny Socialist state, to repeal the gun laws... Meanwhile, they should get punished without respite for the next 50 years, for what they've done for the last 50.

All places too nice for them. I'd vote for Antartica. Heck, I'd be willing to pay billions to move them to the dark side of the moon.
But you know me, I'm so tolerant!

PBA and other bills have been before the Senate before. If the Republicans are smart, they will run ads calling the Demos flip-floppers:
"Tom Daschle voted AGAINST banning partial birth abortions...but then he voted FOR banning partial birth abortions. How can you trust Tom Daschle when he's not sure where he stands?"
You can do the same with Leahy, Dorgan, Reid, Conrad, etc. The message you send is this - you remind conservatives that he's untrustworthy while reminding liberals that he betrayed them on one of their litmus test issues.
This can be done quite effectively and drive up the incumbent's negatives.

Let me make sure I've got it right.
Daschle votes for PBA=shameless attempt to play for votes, hopes his base doesn't notice
President Bush signs McCain-Feingold=brilliant strategic political chessplaying
Yep, I'm on message.
To: kattracks
Their base is not social conservative. How many social conservative donate to the Dims? This is stupid advice
