NY Times False headline putting words into Bush's mouth

Headline listed on the New York Times story
"Bush Says He Sees No Need in Iraq for Adding G.I.'s"
Actual quote from the article
Mr. Bush also indicated that he was not considering sending in additional American troops to help restore order, but said he was not the one making the decision. "That's a decision by John Abizaid," Mr. Bush said, referring to the senior American commander in the region. "He makes that General Abizaid makes the decision as to whether or not he needs more troops. I've constantly asked the secretary of defense, as well as when I was visiting with General Abizaid, does he have what it takes to do his mission? And he told me he does."
I don't know what sort of idiot puts "rules out" meaning the same as "I let my folks on the ground make that decision". You'd think at some point they'd have some pride in their work. No shame, as usual.

What would be news would be if the New York Times actually printed something that was true.

There is a stradigy here for next years elections. Bush was asked yesterday by the press if he sees less troops in Iraq next year. He refused to answer saying it was a trick question. They want to make it seem that Bush said that next year troops in Iraq will be less or equal to what they are now and make him look to be a liar come election time.
They know that Bush doesn't actually have to make the "no new troops" statement, but they only have to make it appear as if he did. Thus we have headlines such as this. Look to see more.

Normally a reporter doesn't write the headline for her article but it's done by someone in the office, usually a junior staffer who is hoping to earn a byline someday. I've noticed that the headlines at the Times are often even more slanted than the articles, probably because these junior staffers understand what it takes to get promoted at an organization like the Times.
But the senior editors normally approve the front page before it's put to bed. This could have slipped by them, but no question that they try to construct the front page every day in a way that will further their political agenda.

Ann called it right about pinch and punch the traitors.
The problem is all the local and regional rags that reprint the anti-American trash from the slimes.

Bush was asked yesterday by the press if he sees less troops in Iraq next year. He refused to answer saying it was a trick question.I watched this on C-Span after work yesterday. I'm so glad he responded the way he did. Pithy as he should, to leading obnoxious questions such as that one. He's(and has surrounded himself with people) smarter than any Liberal will ever give him credit for. I just hope they keep under-estimating him. It was nice to have the camera cut to Condi twice, with George W. Bush complimenting her for all the world to hear after that other question too.
