Michael Schiavo is about as compassionate as a turnip. And his lawyer . . . don't even get me started.

Who exactly was supposed to pay for the medical care to sustain a woman in a persistent vegatative state for an indefinite period of time?

I love how some of the same people who bash taxes, welfare, socialized medicine and illegal aliens getting "free" health care are somehow thinking that the taxpayers have an obligation to pay for this woman's care.

Sorry, but when a huge number of doctors and judges agree that her situation is hopeless, and she's been in a persistent vegatative state for many, many years - I do not believe it's fair to force the taxpayers to support her indefinitely.

If the family had paid the costs, then so be it - but the missing factor from all these discussions seems to be the cost of her care.

Well, by all means if the cost to care for someone is too high lets just get rid of them. Who could blame you? I'm sure you have other things to spend the money on.

You obviously haven't followed the case. The husband was awarded $1.3 million, with at least $700,000 earmarked specifically for her treatment. At most, $50,000 of it has been spent on it. Besides that, her parents want to take care of her and are willing to pay for everything. This is not a taxpayer issue.

But, do you support lawsuit abuse? The husband won $1.3 million in court by specifically promising, that he would care for her over her natural lifespan, which said would be a normal lifespan. Now that he got the money from the courts he wanted, and he contradicts his own sworn testimony.

Help me out here... What was the name Hitler and the Nazis used for the non-productive types like you mentioned above? You know, the ones that were a cost to society and needed to be eliminated?

Well, by all means if the cost to care for someone is too high lets just get rid of them. Who could blame you? I'm sure you have other things to spend the money on. If someone wants to spend their private funds on hopeless situations, that's their prerogative. But, when you have someone who has been medically determined to be doomed, sentenced to a non-life status of "persistent vegatative condition", and you are talking about using public dollars to keep their body around indefinitely - well, sorry, you don't get my approval. There are way too many living people who could benefit from medical care to spend huge amounts of money on someone who is almost assuredly not going to make it.

That is just garbage. This woman has been evaluated as essentially brain dead to the satisfaction of the courts. Her mind has left this world, to keep her body as an object of worship is just bizarre.

I don't think that is what folks are objecting to in your assertion. Terri Schiavo's case is not even close to what you describe ... and you're entitled to hold such beliefs, many powerful people throughout history have held similar beliefs, and in fact much of the apologia in the abortion on demand issue is based upon the same thinking.

The funds provided by the lawsuit were supposed to pay for her care.

Terri's parents were paying for her care and letting Michael live in their house, until the lawsuit was concluded and the funds forthcoming.

The moment the funds were cleared, Michael refused to pay back Terri's parents any of the money they had spent on her care, or his living arrangements, food, laundry, etc.

Michael spent some of the money at some phony new age clinic in KOWLIFORNIA, and then afterward stopped all but the bare minimum of funding to provide a bed and not much else for Terri.

Over half of the funds went to two lawyers, Michael's first lawyer during the lawsuit, and then recently George Felos.

I believe he has convinced they can kill Terri and sell her brain to a research center for a huge sum.

THere are tons of posts on the different threads here about Terri, all explaining what I have just told you.

Wonder if you will read this and keep acting like you don't know the answers to your question?

This woman has been evaluated as essentially brain dead to the satisfaction of the courts.

You mean, according to the information being spread by the MEDIA, (which is totally incorrect) she is brain-dead.

Even George Felos and her husband admitted on a talk show that she is NOT BRAIN DEAD.

Apparently there are several FR posters that are. Please don't be one of them.
