Peter Lewis found Karl Rove's strategy for getting President George W. Bush re-elected so compelling that the billionaire businessman decided to donate $10 million -- to try to defeat Bush.
Lewis, chairman of auto insurer Progressive Corp., read in the May 12 New Yorker magazine that Rove, Bush's top political adviser, planned to pursue such traditional Democrats as Jewish voters and non-white businessmen and to limit trial lawyers' clout as donors to the party, among other tactics.
Lewis, 69, who owns $1.4 billion of Progressive's shares, and financier George Soros pledged $10 million each to a new political organization, America Coming Together. The group's aim: mobilize people to vote against the president by raising $75 million -- more money than any political committee has assembled for a campaign, aside from the Democratic and Republican national organizations themselves.

I once worked for Progressive and actually met Peter J. Lewis on several occassions. He signs all his correspondence, "Peace, Joy, and Love" (i.e., his initials, "PJL"). He is one strange guy. I even had to help with a fundraiser he once had for Dudakis. LOL.

He has joined with Soros. They are the billionaires that also support all the pro-drug propaganda and intitiatives.
Soros has an agenda for total gun control. Too bad we have so many on FR working as his useful idiots.
Or maybe they are not 'useful idiots' but are paid idiots.

Can't the Republicans bring these issues out during the campaign?

Why would a major insurance stockholder and office want to take a stand that increases costs ? Does he benefit somehow when the insurance company incurs large settlement costs or is there something more to this legislation ? Yes. MUCH MORE. Soros, Sperling and Lewis are working together to change our way of life. They have aims much higher than anything related to an insurance company.
We are talking about controlling the "legal" drug supply of heroin, cocaine, etc., if they can get their pro-drug legalization laws passed. They are the major funders of all the pro-drug propaganda web-sites and spammers.

Let's see, Progressive Corp. The name says it all. ( Why do I not hear a bunch of screaming about some rich man trying to influence the vote and take down a President?)

Went on progressives website and wrote a kind note to the investor relations person. I would suggest that all do the same.Indeed. If his actions cause financial harm to Progressive stockholders, he can be found PERSONALLY liable for breach of fiduciary responsibility.

"I am a classic overachiever. I've got to tell you what an overachiever is. An overachiever is a person who spends his entire life proving to himself that he's not as bad as he knows he is ... I have spent 15-plus years in intense psychotherapy of one kind of another in a continuing effort to understand myself and to prevent myself from responding to my own emotions by doing things that are counterproductive to my interests. " - Peter B. Lewis, "Business As A Creative Process," Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art Lecture Series, November 1986.

No company that is being drained by trial lawyer redistribution should ever vote Democrat.
