Former President Bill Clinton and Memphis NAACP activist Maxine Smith will be honored with Freedom Awards by the National Civil Rights Museum.
Security is expected to be tight for the event tomorrow afternoon and evening in Memphis.
Museum Executive Director Beverly Robertson says the Memphis police TACT Unit will provide surveillance, working with the Secret Service and Clinton's security team.
Smith is the former executive director of the local NAACP. Her involvement in civil rights began in the 1950's when she was denied admission to Memphis State University because she is black.
Museum board member Greg Duckett says Smith and Clinton are people who didn't latch onto "the fad of the day" in serving the cause of civil rights. Duckett says both honorees identified issues of principal and held fast to promoting them.
Secret Service and Clintons' security people? Are these two separate security entities funded by the taxpayers?
Here's a little more about this from gomemphis.com:
Maxine Smith was honored at a reception given by The Links Inc., Memphis Chapter, Friday night at The Plaza Club. Maxine, a member of the Memphis chapter, and former president Bill Clinton are the recipients of the 2003 Freedom Awards from the National Civil Rights Museum Tuesday night at The Peabody. link
Can anyone name one thing - one specific thing, not just "holding fast to principle" - Bill Clinton ever did to serve the cause of civil rights?
Oh no, Bill Clinton is NEVER self serving, nope, never. What a prince of a guy. Why isn't he still our president? Better yet, why isn't he our KING!!!! /sarcasm>
Why? It's not like people will be busing in to meet the rapist. Sheesh!
Maybe because prophacy says the anti-Christ will be in great danger. It must be Clinton is well aware of his fate? LOL.
He said he was black. He felt their pain (after the cocain wore off, anyway)
That's because the Satanic demons on the left fear Reagans legacy. Demons always screech when they're being cast out.
CBS is in viewer dire straights. What they sow, so shall they reap. They're committing suicide.
So it is. Amen
Clinton: "I consider this a donation, Chocolate. Better put some ice on that."
1) Mom's and Dads, Lock your daughters in.
2) Criminals, Sorry, he has no more ability to pardon
3) Homeland Security, Turn tape recoders on. Look for codewords of support to Terrorists.
4) Hillary, ready your bimbo alert team.
5) Democrats, run for cover, he can do the same he did for Grey Davis for you!
SO the skunk is finally going public after the California Recall that he ruined(lol) for 'RED' Davis. The DNC must be receiving many nasty and threatening letters regarding Billy Jeff and McAWFULiffe's behavior. I do not believe for a moment, that he has a separate security detail, other than the Secret Service. That IMO, is highly unlikely. Really no one thinks for a moment that Billy Jeff Blythe would spend one dollar on his own security, when it comes from the taxpayers pockets for life via the S.S.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Wesley Clark travels to Milwaukee today to deliver a major health-care policy speech, Dick Gephardt makes one tomorrow in Des Moines. Howard Dean's raising money in Chicago today, while John Edwards tears across Iowa. Wendell Ford goes on the radio in Kentucky to call Ernie Fletcher a vicious liar, while Dick Cheney goes to Mississippi to stump for Haley Barbour.
There's a lot going on in politics today. But honestly, it's difficult to focus on much else when we have Bill Clinton partying tonight with 20-something Democrats at Dream nightclub in Washington. In a trend we like to think Janet Reno started last year by throwing a fund-raiser at Level nightclub in South Beach, Clinton will appear tonight at a sold-out, DNC-sponsored money event at the four-story Dream -- one of Washington's hottest hip-hop nightclubs, or so we're told.
In fact, at the risk of revealing just how un-hip the Grind really is, we admit that our only exposure to Dream was a 2001 profile we read in the Washington Post, where we learned that Dream is a "four-floor luxury oasis of marble and mahogany in a dead zone of warehouses off New York Avenue." It's "a world of luxury that seems the quintessence of, say, New York, 1999," whatever that means. Although the DNC teased guests with the prospect of mingling with Beyonce and P. Diddy, they'll apparently have to settle for the likes of comedian Chris Tucker, Outkast, Genuwine and a few Washington Redskins.
The DNC says it's sold more than 2,000 tickets at $50 a pop to young Democrats, most of whom are first-time donors. The event, which runs from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. (on a Monday??) and is expected to raise more than $100,000, reflects Clinton's lasting appeal among party faithful. But the specter of the impeached president being surrounded by fawning youths was not lost on his tireless detractors. "You know why [Clinton's] coming," GOP consultant Craig Shirley quipped to the Washington Times. "To meet girls." rest of story
LOL. Is "The Hotest Nightclub" a cheap strip joint or a gay bar? LOL.
