I wondered if you could see it because they said it is getting blacker now as the fire spreads. How close is it to where you live?
Indian Oaks Community has been ordered to evacuate. A huge wall of flame came up at the end of the canyon right at this development. Mandatory evacuation in 15 minutes. Condo development on northside of Topanga Canyon butt up against the rim of the Canyon -- fire at the far end of that Canyon.

I need help here... I have an internet buddy in
RANCHO BERNARDO. He hasn't returned my emails. Silence! And that's not like him.
Anyone know about Rancho Bernado area? (I've been looking at a map, but not enough detail to help me...) THANKS!

It is true.

"When the dust settles... I mean embers settle. The good people of CA are going to have to do some housekeeping. The wackos need to be neutered."Sadly, most of the people of CA will be too busy blaming Bush, because their "outraged local leaders" have been screaming on TV for the past few hours that the Bush administration is to blame for the devestation, rather than envirowacko policy. In fact, I'm sure Hillary has already popped out from under her rock to say this is all Bush's fault.

My wife just heard from her brother south of LA. looks like my sister-in-laws house in Crest is gone, as is her son's. Two other family members homes are in danger, but everyone is safe and with family in non-threatened areas.

Rancho Bernardo is north of SD and closer to the ocean than the fire area. Probably OK.

I wondered if you could see it because they said it is getting blacker now as the fire spreads. How close is it to where you live? No, it's definitely closer, and the smoke cloud is HUGE. I could barely see it this morning. Still can't really smell it though.... it's not that close. I am no where near evacuating, although I AM thinking about it....
I have friends in Chatsworth and Box Canyon who I can't get a hold of.

Has the National Guard been call out yet? I've been calling for the NG to be deployed 2 days ago. Anybody agree and do you think they could help?

Just heard on KUSI that the fire at I-15 & 76 was small, and has now been extinguished by the CDF. I heard the same thing but, there's still plenty of smoke & 1 tanker keeps circling (other headed S. about 15 min ago.
To: Toidylop
Most of it was out county on the other fires. We have at least three tankers working at the moment, two of them were on that 76 and 15 fire. There's also some rotary stuff up... but so much fire, so little air.

I am so sorry to hear about their loss. My friend up on Senda Lane was spared. Many of her neighbors were not. She was in tears when she called so sad for her neighbors.

I live and work in Woodland Hills. During my lunch break, I went to Target and you could see the enormous plume of smoke from where I was, all the way across the Valley. It sure looked awfully close to Chatsworth. (Woodland Hills is maybe 10-odd miles directly across from Chatsworth).
It was a scary sight, since I used to live in Chatsworth and have actually considered moving to the Box Canyon area a few times.
Guess it's good that I didn't :-(.

Rancho Bernado is north west of Poway. Only south east of Poway affected so far. My guess RB is OK. However, they just started to evacuate at Wild Animal Park just east of RB. Haven't heard anything mentioning RB.
To: Tijeras_Slim
Rancho Bernardo is much closer to the fire line than the ocean.

Anyone hear that scanner traffic about a possible aircraft down near Big Bear dam?
To: webvanca
That would sure be wonderful news if there was actually not a wreck today at Big Bear. Please keep us posted as you hear.

LA County Fire Chief is going to be on 640 AM in a few minutes after the break to detail what is happening.
Air Tankers are dropping fire retardent in the Simi Valley fire -- first time the fire has been in the San Fernando Valley.
Re: San Bernardino Fire -- have lost more structures in the Devore area.

I've appreciated all your posts and the other FReepers as well. Otherwise, we'd all know next to nothing. Following the thread and the maps sort of prepared us for this possibility.
Thanks, Slim

Sadly, most of the people of CA will be too busy blaming Bush, because their "outraged local leaders" have been screaming on TV for the past few hours that the Bush administration is to blame for the devestation, rather than envirowacko policy. A lot of us know exactly who to blame. More of us now, than before, I'm afraid.... And once those people who were burned out understand WHY there will be some directed anger.
Don't forget CA's legislature does whatever it wants to, regardless of what the populace wants. Passing the Driver's License bill, for example.
