With a disaster of this magnitude often times the phone cell and land lines get 'commandered' by the emergency needs. Service is disrupted or hard to place calls. With the major fires in the greater SD area...this is probably the case. Keep trying to make contact. Hope this helped.

Monarch Ridge is the development with the access gate on Hillsdale Rd. It is north of Hillsdale. My sister's house is on Monaco Ct, immediately south of Hillsdale Rd...just a little grassy area between Hillsdale and the back fence of my sister's house. My sister is hanging out with her inlaws in Chula Vista near Hilltop High School. There's lots of open, brush covered hills west of my sister's place. A fire in there could burn through Spring Valley and into National City.

How far is the fire from the old Santa's Village in the Lake Arrowhead area?

My brother is in Mt. Woodson area of Ramona. Haven't been able to reach them. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Praise God you're safe. Hoping for the best for your friends and neighbors.

the chopper guys are great, but the really wild guys are the bomber pilots. it is just amazing to watch them manuver those planes around the hilly areas.

Earlier this AM, I heard that the fires were close to the Reagan Library. Yesterday, I understood it looked like it would be safe. Anyone know the situation there today?

Hey, I might have hiked right by your house! Back in late May my wife and I hiked the bottom 200 miles or so of the Pacific Crest Trail, which goes right across San Gorgonio Pass and under I-10. We got water at a spigot just after descending to the pass. We then stayed at a place informally known as the Pink Motel (it's actually just a house trailer with some pink stucco, but to a long-distance hiker it's like Eden). It's owned by Don and Helen Middleton. Do you know them? They're technically in Whitewater.
All I know is that was a pretty tough day for us. Descending out of the mountains (dropping nearly 4,000 feet in one day), only to face horrific sand-blasting wind in our faces, was brutal. We couldn't even think of pitching our tent in the pass because the wind would have yanked the stakes right out of the ground, or ripped the tent apart.

our house in south powayDo you know if any houses were damaged at Espola Rd and Twin Peaks, north across from the church?
Also, any losses southeast of the Garden school a quarter mile or so? Thanks.

as of yesterday afternoon the east edge of the fire was burning near the end of bryant. Wrapping around that ridge near Mill Creek area. you will remember that is east of Highland and norteast Redlands/Mentone area. Haven't heard any updates on that area. I'm up here at work in Cherry Valley but live down the hill in Calimesa

Several times I watched those planes fly into fires that were in the Little San Gorgonio mountains from the backyard -- thought they were going to fly right into the mountains. Those pilots have my total respect.

Just called my friend living half a mile from the church. They evacuated last night and just don't know what's going on.

Billboards are going up telling who the REAL villains are in the forest fire battles; saw this one outside of Albuquerque on the road to Farmington Saturday:
The only forest "thinning" environmental extremists allow...
