They probably still reseed, but it won't do any good for another year.

Stay safe! They have been reporting for sometime now there is no good way in or out of the Simi Valley. The choppers seem to be making a difference as the flames seem to be a lot less then they were even 15 minutes ago. These firefighters have been working 72 with only small breaks.
Looks like they are going to be able to save this neighborhood thanks to the chappers. Came down right to the backyards of the homes. These pictures are unbelieveable with the choppers.

Without these choppers, this fire would be totally out of control in the Simi Valley. They have a lot of choppers now dropping.

back to my puter at work and trying to play catch up. I live and work within a stone's throw of the I10. In what we call the pass area. Somebody said they were in Yucaipa a few weeks ago...yep..we are reeeeeaaaallly dry up here too. We are between two mountain ranges...Mt. San Jacinto and Mt. San Gorgonio. Our pass narrows into a bottle neck prior to the drop to the desert floor into Palm Springs and lower desert and out to Cochella and Imperial Valley. We also have a main train corridor through here too.

Thank you very much. We were tired and just figured that if they were going to evacuate us, we'd find out one way or the other. Because of daylight savings I woke up at about 4:30am and started the vigil again. But I am going to go to my store and do some work today. I can't just sit by the TV, I'll go crazy.

There's a
viewer that can be used to zoom in on a map to see what's going on in a particular area. Below is the San Diego region.

The White House needs to shut up the bureaucrat, load the President on a plane, and land him in San Bernardino to directly address the suffering people of California. I haven't read all of the thread to see what brought this up and I'm not going to tell you what to do with your money
But you realize that he has been out of the country and just got back
As for FEMA .. I didn't hear the comment and don't know exactly what was said.

Repost from pulled thread:
Hi folks..
I live in Santee, in San Diego County. We had a tense day and night but all is well here and we appear to be safe for now though if the winds pick up in the wrong direction, God knows what could happen.
My neighborhood was voluntarily evac'd yesterday at around 3pm. We had flames on 3 sides - very scary. I remained at home with all my stuff packed in my truck ready to go. It was a ghost town here with just myself and a few other brave souls remaining.
At around 9pm, the power was restored and it became apparent that we were safe enough to where my wife was able to return and we could sleep in front of the TV with an ear open in case of a flare up. The flames never came closer than 1/4 mile of my house and this morning, it looks pretty good.
Many parts of the county did not fare so well and our prayers go out to all that have lost their homes and to those who are still in danger.
At this time (7:30 am), the skies are red and brown all around us. Everything is covered with ashes so it looks like it snowed last night.
Sorry if this is not very coherent, I only had a few hours sleep last night. Our plan today is to watch what happens and once we're sure our area is in the clear, we plan to go volunteer, possibly at one of the shelters. With the Santa Ana winds, however, it's still very unpredictable and there is still plenty of brushy areas all around us that could ignite from embers or flare-ups.
Wish us luck. I will keep checking this thread and if anyone has questions, I will try to answer but we really don't know much more than what can be learned from the news...
(If you were asking me things on the pulled thread and I hadn't answered yet, feel free to re-post here.)

From what I know, the fire has reached Alpine, but the firefighters have made a stand and have not heard about any lost homes in Alpine. The I-8, the major east-west freeway that goes through Alpine is closed, but so far Alpine is OK.

I can't remember who it was but I was greatfull for the info.
I just got off the phone with my Ma and she said that she had just spoken with my niece. My brother was out getting doughnuts, they got back home late last night. They had packed up their pick-up and other auto and left home for most of the day. No one is at school or work today. The fire had burned up to 4 blocks behind their house, but is burned out for now. The kids are scared to death.

AFAIK, no home were lost in the Santee area though it was extremely close in many areas. I am not familiar with Margerum Ave. But from what I understand, the closest it came to any homes and where there was forced evac, was at the end of Pebble Beach Rd. (north side of Santee and Big Rock Rd. (South side).

I know that there was a lot of fire all around Mirimar. They have asked all personnel to remain home except for essentials. AFAIK, the base itself is fine.
The base is only about 5 miles NW of us and some roads are still closed in that direction. However, the worst of it now appears South and East of us so they should be ok there.
Again, I have to stress that as winds pick up, there is no tellng what may happen.
Sorry, thats all the info I have on that.
