"Saying the Bush initiative wouldn't do anything to prevent these kinds of fires... only the Boxer-Brady bill would have."Oh for Pete's sake. At least the Healthy Forests Iniative has the the years of field testing to back it up.

I live on the east coast and share your unhappiness with the relative lack of coverage of these fires.
I wonder if the networks think that the rest of the country is in a sort of California burnout between wall to wall coverage of the recall and the Kobe Bryant trial?????
Whatever the reason, the minimal coverage of these horrendous fires is inexcusable.

NO! You guys don't get it. The Democrats are shoring up support in San Diego, San Bernardino, Ventura, and LA County by playing the sympathy. I know that you are worried about what the dems are doing, but I think that the voters have wised up to them and are no where near as easily gulled. Look what we have been witnessing in the last several years. Most of what they have tried to pull has come back to bite them hard. If what they are saying is true about the military waiting for Davis to call them so that they can help out fighting the fire, it is the dems that are going once again to be seen as hurting people for political gain. In that case I would not I would not want to be a dem in California in the next several months.

KFI reporting that the fire is now in the backyards of three palatial estates in Chatsworth area. Last of the holdouts are leaving. Some guy with antique cars leaving. Rap music people live there, LA Laker player lives there. 8,000 square feet houses are norm -- Indian Oaks at Chatsworth. They have ordered up dozens of fire engines to come into this area. The whole hill behind the houses are covered with fire. Looks like the fire is right on the development.

new or is it moving that fast?
To: Toidylop
What's going on? It peaks and ebbs. Every time new fuel shows up, there'll be a big flare up, but the overall situation is gradually getting better. They're getting an onshore flow in most of the Cypress area which means they're going to be having a rough night on the east end of the fire.
Locally, the big concern was to save the water treatment plant, an effort that was successful. Most of the Valley Parkway canyon area is looking okay, with most of what's burning located in "islands". They're still having some shakey moments on the north side of the pass. That'll probably go on through tomorrow morning.
The big prayer now is for those new starts elsewhere to end.

Some airhead on Fox News just blamed the whole Calif debacle on President Bush.........
Sez his policy of clearing fuel in forests etc is a whole mistake.Doesn't surprise me. Hopefully, people with a few brain cells to rub together will think about the fuel feeding this fire along when thinkig about his words. Environazi policy - and Gray Davis being a complete incompetant - caused this devestation, nothing else.

Actually, about 2 hours after the exchange, Arnold appeared on KCBS from the Moorpark command post and his wife popped up at San Bernardino shelter.
I'm pleased that we're starting to see some equal representation on the TV.

Mandatory Evacuations
The following areas near Chatsworth have been ordered evacuated:
--Box Canyon;
--Indian Hills Mobile Home Park;
--Woolsey Canyon;
--Twin Lakes;
--and Lake Manor.
Also, part of the city of Los Angeles in the Chatsworth area has been ordered evacuated. It is within an area bounded on the west by Iverson Road, on the north by the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway, on the east by Canoga Avenue and on the south by Santa Susana Pass Road.
Anyone displaced by this evacuation order is urged to go to an evacuation center at Mason Park, at Mason Avenue and San Jose Street, which is just north of Devonshire Street.
Because of the potential danger of the Old Fire, authorities and the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department have initiated a mandatory evacuation of the following areas: Running Springs, Green Valley Lake, and Arrowbear.
From the affected communities, the primary route for evacuation is Hwy 18 to Big Bear. From Big Bear, take hwy 38 to Redlands or Hwy 18 to Lucerne Valley.
American Red Cross Shelter sites are set-up to receive evacuees in Hesperia at the following high schools: Sultana High School at 17311 Sultana Street (cross street of Avenue I); and Hesperia High School at 9898 Maple Avenue.
There is an additional Shelter site at the San Bernardino International Airport (Norton). To access the Shelter site, enter the airport from 3rd Street and Del Rosa Avenue.

Did you hear Cong Dreier on KFI -- don't worry -- RATs will be paying for Davis and environmentalist wackos they let take over policies in CA forestry for a long time.
Arnold is in D.C. tomorrow night and Wednesday -- will be meeting with people who can help including VP Cheney.
RATs are going to rue the day they reelected Davis and kept his stoolies in office. Arnold is now showing leadership and traveling to D.C. to get help -- trip had been planned for him to come asking for help but now it is imperative that the Federal people get involved now! Cong Dreier said FEMA will be set up in the morning to help out in CA.
