I thought it was a Hemit! Thanks! Backfire being lit at the edge of Rim Forest to try and save Rim Forest which is 18 miles from Big Bear. Rim of the World High School is a staging area. I cannot imagine driving Rim of the World at night!

The fire moved east from Simi into Chatsworth and Porter Ranch... Malibu is West of Simi, and South.

Have the same vivid images in my mind when I was called in to pitch the 6th & 7th against Yucaipa High in 1964. Gave up 2 runs and lost the game. (only flaw on my record) LOL.

I simply can't imagine that my old stomping grounds could go up in smoke like this. The "Rim" area has been considered choice for over 45 years. I do think that the fuel below the highway used to be rather sparse and I'm hopeful that if the winds subside, the firestorm can be snuffed prior to leaping the ridgeline. God Hopes.

Arnold will be in D.C. tomorrow night and Wednesday. Reporting Arnold was at a command post in Moorpark today -- Arnold saying the firefighters are risking their own lives to save people and homes.

Arnold is asking Feds to step in quickly to hlep and will be meeting with people tomorrow night and Wednesday to get help into CA immediately.

Re: Descanso

At last report (about an hour ago) the fire was whipping around the mountainside outside of town but they were keeping it out of the community.

That part of the fire is USFS.
