"We condemn Vida Samadzai, she is not representing Afghanistan's women, and this is not women's freedom."
Here is an original idea, why not let women decide what their freedom is?

Quick addendum. On second thought I can't give you the acadamies. Attendance there is not a right, its a priviledge. The right is equality under law, not attendance. The Academies are governmental institutions not private ones.
To: John O
I do not recognize the ability to murder your unborn child as a right even if the supremes say it is.My statement dealt with the accuracy of your contention that women enjoy the same rights now as they did 50 or so years ago. Most women would not return to the 50's for this reason alone.

The right is equality under law, not attendance. The Academies are governmental institutions not private ones. Men over the age of 60 are not allowed to enroll in the service academies either. Are they not equal under the law? Or how about men who are quadraplegics? I can't qualify for the WIC program (seeing as I'm not a woman, and infant or a child and I earn too much) Does that make me unequal under the law.
Some people just don't qualify for some activities. Women should not be in combat roles in the military. They really shouldn't even be in the military as that is not the best use of them as a resource of this country. This is not a case of rights. They still have the same rights as they did in the 50's.
My statement dealt with the accuracy of your contention that women enjoy the same rights now as they did 50 or so years ago. Most women would not return to the 50's for this reason alone.
And part of the evidence you used was abortion. They shouldn't have the right to murder today. It is a violation of our foundational right to life.
Therefore they did have the same rights in the 50s that they have now AND they were regarded more highly by society. They had more freedom of action and they were, I'd hazard to guess, much happier.
Now admittedly I live in a community where many women live the 50's type lifestyle and they are thrilled with it. In fact I seem to remember reading a while back that there is a growing number of women either leaving the workforce or never joining it. Lots of college girls have realized that being a wife and mommy is their calling in life and they intend to be happy instead of have a career
We could go on about this all day but we've gone too far off topic. I won't respond to any answer (that is, I'll let you have the last word if you so desire) and we'll pick this up again on a thread more suited to it. God bless.

Here's a pic of another muslim girl gone "bad". Actually I think she's Pakastani by her father, a holy man.

First, give her some food..... No kidding. I look at that and to me she looks like she's built like a 15 year old boy.
Real women have curves.

"Appearing naked before a camera or television is not women's freedom but in my opinion is to entertain men," Minister Habiba Surabi said. How can you possibly disagree with that? I'd say it is spot on. Take the statement as if he were actually talking about naked women, perhaps commenting on the porn industry and not Miss Afghanistan in a bathing suit (that's no bikini BTW).

It is not God who finds shame in nudity; it is the influence of Satan and the initial defiance of God's commands that has brought about "prudishness". That's a subject that could fill an entire thread of its own.

What makes you think I disagreed with the statement? I'm sorry. I just went back and read your original comment. I thought you'd stated 'agree'...not 'disagree'.
Dang! I just gotta learn to keep my fingers off the keyboard before I've had coffee.
Again, apologies.

Yes, and we appreciate being entertained. What will they do when PLAYBOY has "The Girls of Afghanistan."

The display is immodest and makes of woman a mere sexual object. So the problem is where?
Football is immodest and makes of men a mere barbarian object. Should we cancel all football games? Make the players wear burkas?

Is this thread still sputtering on? Give it a rest. It's been three days and this is post 200.
