Two ramifications of the West Bank separation fence - its disruption of daily Palestinian life and its seeming determination of the borders of a future Palestinian state - are "troublesome" for the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday.
"It's one thing to put up a security fence, a barrier that is clearly on your property - the dividing line, so to speak - in order to protect yourself, and that would be understood," Powell said in a CNN interview.
"But as the fence goes deeply into Palestinian areas and starts to put more and more Palestinians outside of their normal traffic patterns and being able to get to their fields and farms and workplaces, and as it seems to pre-judge what a future Palestinian state might look like, then that's troublesome to us."
"We have to get into deeper consultations with the Israelis about their intent and the purpose of this fence," he added.

Powell: Fence's disruption of Palestinian life is 'troublesome'
Oh really, Colon. What's troublesome is the constant terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens. I wish our government would care enough about us to build a fence around our borders, but of course, we'll have to build it ourselves...can't stop the cheap labor, ya know.

Wonder if he feels the same way about isreali suicide bombers disrupting the pali's life.

As much as I have come to worry about our Great General & his political views, I would think he has learned a great deal since 911. He must act & sound like a Sec. of State, but he has been the recipeint of many rude & harsh lessons-surely these events have changed the man. I really expect he is now more conservatrive than he was-if a man may change at his stage of life-although I would like to see some proof!

Pali's blowing up restaurants and buses sure plays havoc to the standard life on the Israeli side, too.
Powell needs to fold his roadmap and go home--he needs a long vacation, a.k.a. retirement.

I grew up with a fenceline protecting me and my family. Along with the world's largest mine field. What part of that is troublesome to Colon?

Powell: Fence's disruption of Palestinian life is 'troublesome' He is right: now it makes it much harder for them to blow up Jewish and Christian children, which their lives are focused on.
I am sure the esteemed Secretary has noticed how disruptive the bombing in Iraq was to the everyday lives of the ordinary Iraqis. I am sure he urged Rumsfeld to excercise restraint.
It is because of this stand by the Adminstration, because we are begging for acceptance by the Muslims, that we are viewed as naive and stupid.
They will never accept us unless we are dead or subjugated. And this path only encourages them.
Thank you, Mr. Powell, for the double standard.

Abu Powell and the U.N. are disturbed any time Israel tries to defend itself.

"Pali's blowing up restaurants and buses sure plays havoc to the standard life on the Israeli side, too." Mr. Powell deeply disturbs me. He hasn't done a good, g** damn thing to stop Yasser Arafat's bombers. Not a thing! He's a total failure. His defense of Palestinian murderers is immoral. And if Bush is behind this, he is equally immoral and corrupt. Suicide murderers are not the moral equivalent of defenseless Israeli children on buses. Anything America can do to help protect those children, we should do.
