[history]
E.T., the extraterrestrial, may prowl neighborhoods on Halloween with Hollywood's other soft-and-squishy renditions of intelligent alien life forms.
But when might we humans actually, finally encounter the real thing?
Probably in your lifetime. By 2025.
The leading experts in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, Calif., recently completed the most systematic calculations ever performed on when the human race is likely to contact intelligent alien life for the first time.

Ahhh - "To Serve Humans". A classic for The Twilight Zone. I especially like when the guy has been on the spaceship for awhile and greedily eats the food they place through the slot in the door! Bawhahahhahaaaaa!

Personally, I think that the rest of the cosmos is aware of us already...and regards the Sol system as the celestial trailer park of the Milky Way and the inhabitants of Earth as the crazy cousin that nobody talks about at family gatherings. Mark Twain had essentially the same idea when he wrote his short story, Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven.

I've been reading science fiction since I was a teenager. But that's just good stories; this is reality. We still have absolutely no evidence of anything more than microbial life beyond earth.
So, maybe so, maybe not. The date is completely arbitrary, because it's not based on anything but wishful thinking.

"It's entirely possible that biological intelligence is just one step on the road to another kind of intelligence -- machines 100,000 times smarter than humans that take control," We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Your technological uniqueness will be added to the collective.
Resistance is futile.

Their answer: within 22 years.
Horse manure. People who make such predictions are simply demonstrating their weak grasp of evolution.

Ya know, the reason we're not finding anybody may be 'cause they don't wanna be found.
Or 'cause they have already been found...
Every time I read something like this, I think more money for SDI would be a GOOD thing.

Er, uh, er . . . YOU actually downloaded the SETI screen saver and
paid $ 30 to join that group ??
I was howling when I listened to Art Bell's show year ago when he was forming his own SETI team. But this is too much for me. Aaarrrrg!
As for myself -- I was taken on board a time traveling UFO when I was only 9 year old. They implanted me with tiny chips so that I will respond when they come back for me. Their secret plan is to enslave all earth women (Notice how that big alien is starring at blondie's lips) and how BIG his hands are . . . He has nasty stuff on his mind for sure. Reminds me of Clinton.
Gort -- Klatu, Barata, Nickto !

I'll go out on a limb: I doubt this prediction.
Universally speaking in the grand picture of the entire space/time continuum, we're hayseeds.
We're in a jerkwater gas giant system in a vacant region in the spinward Orion arm of the Milky Way Galaxy nestled in a rural part of the Virgo Supercluster.
We haven't even got another planetary object capable of sustaining life in our system.
Of course, we celebrate life and the good fortune of existence every day, but God dealt us a bunk position in the universe and gave us Scripture that said he was mad at us before we were even born.
What did we do to deserve this?

Keep the funds focused on SETI and you can cut 5 years off the "prediction".
To: The KG9 Kid
I figure any aliens that know that we exist would consider us a race of lunatics; fun and entertaining to watch and listen too from a distance, but not a group that you would want to get real close too.
