I actually heard a So Cal Edison say they purposely shut off electricity to Forest Falls (San Bernardino) which is at the base of mountain to Lake Arrowhead and Idylwild which is above desert going to San Diego for that very reason. The wind was too strong and there are dead trees from the bark beetle which caused them to fear falling trees and arcing power lines.

Will take days to reconnect them because lines have to be checked first for downed trees.
