I read it; thanks onyx. Some people have no clue. Perhaps that's the problem. If you lived in other parts of the country you'd have no idea how serious this is...thanks to the national media's ignoring it. I turned on CNN and they gave it 30 seconds, giving more attention to how the fires have affected air travel. It was a great reminder of why I don't watch CNN.

Thanks. I have relatives that now have a house in RP and they are building a house in San Marcos. That place looks OK, for now.
Another 80 yr old relative in Clarimont Mesa. Don't see that on the map and I have no idea where it is. Any news about that place? Thanks alot for your info.

Yep. Our ability to evacuate is diminishing by the hour.
It IS horrible...and I'm not in an area that's on fire. I just have cruddy air.

Grand Prix (San Bernardino Unit, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection): 27,182 acres at 23 percent contained. The fire is located two miles west of Mira Loma. I'm pretty sure Mira Loma should be Alta Loma. West of Mira Loma is Norco, which is not on fire.
Agreed, but I bet they're going by the USGS quad map names, which may not exactly follow local usage. I'll see if I can find the CA maps online; I'm more used to working the Wyoming and Montana areas.

Now reporting: Southwest has cancelled all their SD flights; 163 closed in both directions; Crown Hills area has been evacuating for the past 20 minutes.
Advising to evacuate from Poway on 56 FWY ? (hard for me to tell if he said 56 or 66), since the 5 is closed.
To: Kahuna
Just heard on the news here in SD that the winds usually die down by this time in the day. They are not doing that toady.

If you do evacuate, once you do so, have the air filter on your car engine changed for a new clean one.

Fires on or around Clairemont Mesa Blvd and 805 (I think) but that's a long street, and I haven't heard anything about Claiemont Mesa area being evacuated.

A great deal of it has become a very mature neighborhood without a lot of chapparal except on the borders so it really would depend on specifically where a place is located, I think.

I'm completely unfamiliar with the area. My sister lives in Rancho Santa Fe and I'm a bit confused on the status. Is that near Rancho Penasquitos?

Sante Fe is west of Rancho Penasquitos. I haven't heard of any fire in Rancho Santa Fe.

LOOK at the sun. It is NEON ORANGE.
I just took a look outside --- the air quality has worsened dramatically from an hour ago.
TV 8 or 10 (whichever husband is watching) reports the fires are heading toward Vista and San Marcos.
