"It's an obvious news black out."
Radar black-out too, your link is saying data for this area is unavailable. Could the smoke be that bad?

California wildfire causes flight delays
The Associated Press
10/26/2003, 3:02 p.m. ET
LOS ANGELES (AP) Air traffic nationwide was disrupted Sunday when a wildfire forced the evacuation of a Federal Aviation Administration control center.
Aircraft scheduled to fly to Los Angeles International Airport, San Diego's Lindbergh Field and other regional airports were ordered held on the ground for varying lengths of time, FAA spokesman Paul Turk said from Washington, D.C.
The delay affected flights originating throughout the United States and Canada, he said.
The problem began about 9 a.m. PST when a fire on the Marine Corps' Miramar Air Station in San Diego forced controllers to evacuate the FAA's Southern California Terminal Radar Approach Control. They remained out of the center 3 hours later.
The facility's functions were transferred to a center near Palmdale in the Mojave Desert that normally handles high-altitude traffic.
"The net effect is a somewhat reduced ability to take in traffic," Turk said

Our house now smells of smoke inside, - guess I'd best close ALL of the windows!
When I told South40 earlier on amother thread, that I couldn't see falling ash, I really couldn't *see* any, but now my son's white car is covered with dark gray ash/soot.
Some neighbors are on "canyon watch" --- we're on the rim overlooking I-8 --- because we are convinced the fires are being set. No tinfoil necessary --- we're serious.

Another good source is KGTV Channel 10 - they are currently giving the best coverage - along with KUSI - 9/51. I don't know if they have internet streaming, but they are both good sources.

I suspect terrorism. Think how easy it'd be for someone. I can't believe the number of these fires is simply coidential, an act of God (certainly not Allah!) etc. I live in San Diego County and we see ashes fallen, a nuclear winter-like orange sun against a light to dark brown sky. I bet when it's all through arson will have played a key role....and I am suspecting the worst.

I doubt that is true! Those wood shake roofs are over twenty years old! Many up to thirty years old. They are the kiss of death in a development, along with eucalyptus trees! Many insurance carriers will not write coverage on a home with a shake roof.
