Blind Golfer Makes Hole-in-One (THERE IS NO JUSTICE!!!!!!!)

October 24, 2003 — It was a shot of a lifetime for a golfer in Montgomery County.

The first thing we learned about 89 year old Larry Ruttenberg, is that he has a great sense of humor.

The real answer has already become the stuff of legends at the Ace Club Golf Course in Lafayette Hill.

Last Monday, Mr. Ruttenberg was here approaching the 12 hole along with Paris Sterrett, a coach with the Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association.

"The ball was rolling and rolling and went into the hole."

Sterett says his involvement was minimal. He helps his protégé find the ball but the rest is up to him.

He has been playing for 65 years. The 89-year-old Ruttenberg says he's received a lot of attention as a result of all this from the media and fellow golfers as well.

But he says when all that goes away he'll be left with one thing, bragging rights.

And on the next hole he strode up to the tee and proclaimed:

Well I guess I'm up unless one of you had a ZERO!

I trust he bought everyone a drink at the 19th hole, as tradition mandates!

Then the barstids are going to want something to eat... And they will bring along friends and strangers to share a meal with. Then, next thing you know, you have 30 orders off of the menu when you were set to go home in 30 minutes.

What hole is the blind guy on? How long until they get to the clubhouse? And, fergoshsakes!, why can't he play at night?

I work for a golf club and will never, ever, ever, ever go out there and chase a little white ball over hill and dale. Even if it's free.

If he's blind, how can he be sure it went in? </tinfoil>

Choose your own caption:

1) Will you look at that!

2) Just kidding. It's in the lake.

3) You don't see that every day...

4) See the ball... Be the ball...

5) That was fun. Let's try skeet shooting tomorrow.

Ya, life isn't fair sometimes, but, in situations like this I remind myself that Freddie Couples didn't get his first hole in one until he had played several years on the Tour.

You have just named the VERY clubs in my grandfather's bag.

I wouldn't have bet against the old gentleman either. He was a die hard golfer, and if they have a nice course in Heaven I'm sure he's out there hittin' 'em long and down the middle.

They caught a blind guy ON TAPE about two years ago, as he aced a hole. He didn't even know it until all his buddies started jumping all over him. Quite a shot of film.
