October 24, 2003 It was a shot of a lifetime for a golfer in Montgomery County.
The first thing we learned about 89 year old Larry Ruttenberg, is that he has a great sense of humor.
The real answer has already become the stuff of legends at the Ace Club Golf Course in Lafayette Hill.
Last Monday, Mr. Ruttenberg was here approaching the 12 hole along with Paris Sterrett, a coach with the Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association.
"The ball was rolling and rolling and went into the hole."
Sterett says his involvement was minimal. He helps his protégé find the ball but the rest is up to him.
He has been playing for 65 years. The 89-year-old Ruttenberg says he's received a lot of attention as a result of all this from the media and fellow golfers as well.
But he says when all that goes away he'll be left with one thing, bragging rights.

One of golfer's greatest nightmares is the prospect of making a hole-in-one with no witnesses. Due to his disability, that will never be a problem for Mr. Ruttenberg.
I'm sure it was as much of a thrill to him as it would be to someone who could see his shot. Congratulations to him. I trust he bought everyone a drink at the 19th hole, as tradition mandates!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been looking for one of those myself. No such luck or skill.

I came within 6 inches of a hole in one once.
Damned if I didn't 3 putt it....
I hate golf, every time I play it.

LOL, I'm addicted. As long as I can carry my bag, find a golf course and walk 5 miles, you can find me any weekend morning at dawn attempting to "find me game".

I'm darn lucky Mrs. L works at one of the finer courses in the Chicago area. One of the perks is (drum roll..)
Free Golf! We've been hacking the place up on Mondays when the course is closed to the public for the last three years. Lurker Jr. is already enrolled in golf lessons at the age of 8. I'm sure he'll curse me for the rest of his life for getting him hooked at such an early age.
He does love when we let him drive the golf cart though.
So far, he's loving all of Clan Lurkers bad habits. Golf, shooting, fishing, etc. The poor kid doesn't stand a chance. He'll have a lifetime of very expensive hobbies and it's all my fault.
The shame...

"I'm darn lucky Mrs. L works at one of the finer courses in the Chicago area. One of the perks is (drum roll..) Free Golf!" Mine works at a course too. Life is good.
Simple golf truth... never bet against the older guy with the ancient leather bag containing a 2 iron, 7 iron, 9 iron, wedge and putter, and nothing else.
