AUGUSTA, Maine -- After months of delay, legislative leaders have given the green light to a privately funded study of Maine's obesity problem.
The study, funded by $7,280 raised by the Maine Cardiovascular Health Council, will examine why Mainers -- especially children -- are growing fatter than ever and what can be done to reverse that trend.

Look OUT fatty Mainers!
At least this is "privately funded!!"
Maine has the highest obesity rate in New England. Sixty percent of Mainers are overweight or obese, and the problem is rising fast among children.
New England? I bet no one says anything about FAT TED though, DO they?

Hey, Lion Lady, let's start up a pool to see who's gonna die first, the smokers or the fatties?
To: SheLion
"Maine has the highest obesity rate in New England."That's because it's also the poorest states in New England.
In this country, it's poor people who are fat.

Hey, Lion Lady, let's start up a pool to see who's gonna die first, the smokers or the fatties? Oh! Haven't you heard? The Surgeon General has put forth a report that obesity has now passed alcoholism, homelessness and smoking for being the nations' number one KILLER????
Oh my!

Adults and kids have been indoctrinated for the past 20 years to eat a high carb diet and avoid meats (PETA influence) and fats like the plague. This is the result.
Thanks to Dr. Atkins and other proponents of low carb eating habits, the mindset about diet is changing. Grocery stores and restaurants, even fast food ones, are beginning to offer low carb choices. With this in mind, I wouldn't buy any sugar or flour futures--but I would buy cattle futures (Hillary was ahead of the curve).

This is one of the worst manufactured "crisis" these moronic boobs have ever come up with and almost proves that these lard-a$$ed geeks have outlived their usefullness.
They could attend to all the "business" that is benificial to the republic of Maine in two weeks.
Lawmakers will use the recommendations as a basis for possible new laws aimed at slimming Mainers, House Speaker Patrick Colwell, D-Gardiner, said Thursday.
What are they gonna do? Forced jogging?
Maybe we'll all be assigned nannies to stand over our shoulders and tisk-tisk when we make "bad lifestyle decisions" or wrestle that steak off our forks.
Maybe this is what that idiot Baldacci means when he blathers on about "the kinds of jobs we want in Maine."
This chit gets me hoppin'.

When I visited Maine last summer, the thing that struck me was the astonishing number of Dunkin Donut shops. Most with lines of people waiting to get in!!!

"Must be those big welfare checks. heh! "There are many people on the dole in Maine. The state has a culture that is amenable to being on public assistance. Hence, the presence of so many Somali refugees in the Lewiston/Auburn area.
Certainly with sky high state income tax rates and a general governmental hostility to business, Maine is not a state where many new jobs grow.
Bad business environment, cultural acceptance of welfare, indifference to education beyond 8th grade: Might as well get fat.

I'm with you, SheLion---where in our Constitution does it say that our elected representatives get to decide how we should live our lives? We seem to have fallen into an abyss where the government can control everything we do.
I just heard that they are now considering forcing every restaurant to post calorie counts of everything offered on their menus. Can you imagine the cost to the restaurant to do this?

Oh yea. Funny how the poor people are saying they have NO money, yet they sit there HUGE. I always say "Well, they sure have enough money to EAT." Must be those big welfare checks. heh! Poor people have to stretch their money. That means they usually have to buy the cheap stuff. Mac&cheese...oodles of noodles...PB&J sandwiches.... cereal...they can't afford the fresh fruits, vegs, and meats.

Couldn't they grow some vegetables themselves?
To: SheLion
Will they bury the report when it shows high carb foods like Maine potatoes are the cause of such obesity?
To: basil
Well, keep in mind that treating medical problems caused by obesity cost this country over 9 billion dollars last year. And fat folks didn't pick up the tab by themselves. That means we're all paying for their lack of self-control. I don't know about you, but my health care premiums and taxes don't need to go any higher. If we made folks who behave self-destructively pay more for their pleasures, we might see less of the behavior. But we don't need a government study to tell us that.
