If memory serves, this is just one of those floating monolith thingies that leads to an ancient interstellar wormhole terminal through which travellers can be reborn as a "Star-Child".

It’s the beginning of a monolith. ;)

It's probably a cloud of microbes caused by that contaminated Galileo spacecraft that crashed into the Jovian atmosphere recently.

it's made up of millions of black rectangular objects ... all dimensions are a perfect 1 x 4 x 9 ratio ... regardless of size ...
