Support Fisher House
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

You think you're hot?
Our military forces in Iraq sweat it out in 130 degree heat everyday!
Cool Our Troops is a non-profit effort to 'Cool' our troops in Iraq. They are raising funds to send personal misters to 50,000 military personnel serving in Iraq. The misters are portable, no batteries or electricity required, and rely on evaporation to cool surrounding temperatures by 20-30 degrees.

Hi All!

My #1 son is off tomorrow to Basic Training.
I'd be with him but they won't take me.
He loves his country and will serve her well.

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

A young man was visiting his brother and sister-in-law and was surprised to find his young nephew, Timmy, helping them bake the cupcakes. After they were done, his sister-in-law allowed
Timmy to put the icing on. When he had finished, he brought them to the table.

"The cupcakes look delicious, Tim." his uncle said. He took a bite while looking at the other cupcakes.
"Timmy these are so good."

As he finished one and took another he again complimented his little nephew.
"The cupcakes look beautiful, Tim," his uncle said. "How did you get them iced so evenly?"

And he took a large bite while waiting for the answer. His nephew replied, "I licked them."

1966 - The Beach Boys released the single "Good Vibrations."

Pancakes give me good vibrations.

Ah! I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair

Ah! I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's givin' me the excitations
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Ooo, bop-bop, good vibrations)
She's givin' me the excitations
(Bop-bop, excitations)
(Good, good, good, good vibrations)
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
(Ooo, bop-bop, good vibrations)
She's givin' me the excitation

Religious History
_451 During the Fifth Session of the Council of Chalcedon, the final form of the Chalcedonian Creed was drafted. It became the Early Church's highest and most enduring "definition" of the person and work of Jesus Christ.
1844 The "Great Disappointment" began when this latest date, set for the return of Christ by religious leader William Miller, passed without event. Over 100,000 disillusioned followers returned to their former churches, or abandoned the Christian faith altogether.
1899 American Presbyterian missionary James B. Rodgers, 34, baptized his first Filipino converts to the Christian faith, thus inaugurating the beginning of Philippine Protestant churches.
1952 The complete Jewish Torah was published in English for the first time. A collection of oral and written commentary (dating 200 BC to AD 500) on the first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah comprises the basic religious code of Judaism.
1966 Swiss Reformed theologian Karl Barth declared in a letter: 'God makes no mistakes.'

Stupid question time - after much conversating (is that a word?) with my dad and brother, we have been trying to hash out a bit of our geneological past. We know that my great-grandfather's father was former US Congressman Theodore Stark Wilkinson from Louisiana (or possibly a brother of his). I'm trying to hash backwards and sideways from there.

I have been able to ascertain that two of Congressman Wilkinson's great-grandfathers were General John (or Horatio) Stark and General James Wilkinson, both of which were contemporaries of Washington and Jefferson. I also have a rough edge on a direct family line back to a "Biddle" or "Byttel" family in England around 1600 or so.

I'm trying to search further and have rough ties to north Africa, Spain and France. But the edges are rough at best.

Any suggestions as to where to go to find more info? (Perhaps a geneology thread on FR?)
